OK I'm making the final plans on my upcoming wooden case before I start to build the thing. The main body of the case will be made from 12mm ply. Wood, being a conductor, will need adequate ventilation (I was thinking 1 80mm fan or perhaps 2 60mm fans at the back). However I'm after a decent, attractive way of mounting the fans. Of course I could cut a hole with a holesaw and put the fan behind that, perhaps with a fan grill, but it wouldn't look that good, and I'm not looking to cut corners with this case. Does anyone have any idea how I can mount the fans that will not block airflow too much, and will look good and blend in with the case?0 Thanks in advance -Sam
i would suggest a single 120mm on top to keep the noise down and the case looking the best and i dont know what they call it but you can make it look good by putting strips of wood like shingles to hide the fan but still allow air through
In my wood case I'm designing I put a panel in front of the plain ol' 120mm hole and have a long open cut out in the outermost panel to allow air in without seeing the fan. Kind of like what Zap is doing with that Shuttle's side window.
Are you doing a window? if not, I might suggest ducting to everything you want cooled, from the bottom of that case, and adding an extra fan to your psu for the exhaust.
yeah, coold from the bottom, or make a wooden fan grill out of a scroll say, most jugs can do it. be carefull on cutting the design, leave extra and sand. I might do a wooden case here soon, so much easier to cut, plus it will match my room. be neeat to make ineard frame that could be put into a wooden case at home then a acrylic one at LANs.
