    Hello,

I'm new to the forums, modding, and electronics in general. We're getting ready to toss out a lot of of PCs at work, and a few of us decided it might be fun to use the extra components for a fun little side project. Since we're all new at this we decided our best bet would probably be something with the extra case fans.

The above picture will give you a rough idea of what we're working with. They're all 12V DC fans and require anywhere from 1.3 to 2.5 amps.

We have about 60 of these things- and I guess what we're looking for is a starting point. What will it take to power these, how will we power them, what can we do with them? Easiest idea seems to be a desk fan of sorts but we're up for a challenege, if you have ideas.

    Thanks!

you should use them to power the aircushion in an airhockey table. That's also a great thing to have at work, just to blow off some steam :D

    Hey thanks for the responses!

I really like the idea of an air hockey table- and I think with some planning and though we might be able to pull that off.

How would we go about powering these fans though? Is it as simple as joining the correct cables to DC power? I don't really know all that much about electricity, so I probably need to read up on voltage, and amps, etc. and how the level of power will affect the hardware. Are there any places I could read up on this sort of thing? I think ideally we'd like to power this from a single source, if possible.

    Thanks again!

Really all you need is the correct voltage and enough amperage to drive all those fans. You would probably have the best luck creating your own powersupply, but that's a pretty big task.

Or he could just rip a few old Power supplies apart.
