I have a 2 year old HP pc with a 3GHz P4 processor. The problem is that my fan cannot figure out at what speed it is supposed to run, so it constantly goes from making no noise at all to runnig at full speed. So i want to change the fan, however i have measurred the size of the fan to 95mm, so i just wanna know if it is possible to buy a fan at that size.
There are only 92mm fans close to that size. Is this a socket 478 P4? If so, you may not be able to just change off the fan with another; it may be an integrated sink/fan. You'd have to post pics or something.
Well i can't really submit any pictures at the moment (maby later). I can remove the fan from the heat sink, so i am only looking for a fan. I am not certain what socket it uses, but it is 2 and a half year old, so I guess it is 478.
Download and run CPUZ to find out what chip you have, then you will know which socket it is. Also good quality heatsinks with quiet or replaceable 120mm fans are not expensive, so I would recommend doing that, rather than trying to find a 95mm fan.
Are you 100% certain it is 95mm not 92mm? Wouldnt a 92mm fan fit on a 95mm bracket anyway with a little tinkering?
The thing is that currently i have dismounted my heatsink, and I have no paste, and I use the standart HP motherboard that came along with the pc, and i bought a new heatsink, however it does not fit with the holes in motherboard, or the 775 adapter does, only the holes in my motherboard are to small for the fastening mechanism
