On those fans you connect to the mobo, there are three wires. What does the third wire do?

Can I somehow alter the RPM with this wire?

it doesnt control the rpm, its shows the mobo how fast its spinning. Each time the fan makes 1 revolution a pulse is sent along the wire which the mobo counts and translates. Well soemthing like that anyway :p

Ok. But this wire isn't essential for the fan to work, right?

Could I just connect the RPM wire to a fan connector on the mobo, but still run the electric wires to my custom fan connector on my bezel? (I make it sound so nice. It is just a molex with a switch and an LED)
