So Im expecting delivery of a Lamptron FC3 and am pricing up some fans. Thinking of some Gentle Typhoons 120mm jobies. My case has space for several fans 4 x 120mm on side and 3 x 120mm on top. Thinking of two intake from the top, maybe three and two intake on side. What would you guys suggest? Sure Parge mentioned 1850's GT's?
Also reason its an older controller is i bought it off of a guy on Mumble. Trust him good and proper lol
Silverstone air penetrators as intakes and the gt's as exhausts. However, some people say that the gt's produce an annoying whine :/
Hmm ok going to move my pc from under my disk next week. System gets a kitten warm now the airflow has changed. I play with a headset or speakers on so i probably won't notice the whine.
It's a high pitched whine, if you have sensitive hearing, it's very noticeable. But as said, Silverstone AP's as intakes are a great idea.
I got a couple of these Deltas instead of GT's. £6 a shot with free P+P. AP's are good intakes, though louder than I'd like.
I'll tell you when they arrive, Lennyrhys bought a couple as well, so he should be able to give you a better comparison to high-end fans when his arrive.
Yeah I've got them and tbh I'm thinking about making a thread with my results and also including a few other fans for a more rounded comparison - atm I'm directly comparing the Deltas to Gentle Typhoon AP-15s at different speeds on my TRUE, marking them both on performance and acoustics. Results to follow!
Ok sweet thanks guys if all comes up rosey will definitely buy some of those fans, thinking three outake through the top and three intake on the side.
Don't rush into anything - the Deltas are better than the average case fan but they are rather loud at full speed (2200-2300 rpm) I'll be posting up my results shortly once I've finished collating them.
Standard 3-pin plug, and the cable is 25cm long. I've finally finished all my testing so now it's time to get some results posted in a new thread
So I bought and installed Delta1212m/SH fans. Found they shift loads of air and make a fair amount of noise. Tried dropping the two fans down to reduces main noise and now have a high pitched noise. I know it's the fans motor causing the noise. Looks like I'm going to swap them out for some different fans xD
What controller you using? I built my own controller with two transistors (NPN and PNP, compound pair) and it works an absolute treat; the fans don't make any noise if I slow them down. There will be a way to slow them down and eliminate the whine.
I am using a Lamptron FC3. If I slow them down too much they simply stop running. I do have the two fans running off of a single channel which could be why they make the noise when at such a low fan speed. I have them turned off right now and things are ok temprature wise. Converting some video with Imtoo right now and with CPU load at around 30% according to Imtoo temps arent high at all. I am going to put each fan on a single channel tomorrow. I need to pick up another 3 pin exstension cable to put them on a single channel.
AHA! and the penny drops: first, your FC3 is a 0-12v controller so yes it will stop the fans at 3-4v or so, maybe even as high as 5v. Second, it's a PWM controller which means it modulates the supply voltage (switches it on/off rapidly) which although popular is a really course and inferior way of controlling fan speed because it can create a lot of extraneous noise, especially at lower speeds. Check what this kind of PWM controller did to my Delta here. The best way to control these fans would be simple linear voltage regulation.
