Gaming Farming Simulator 2011 Review

What i really wanna know is... is there a feature for taking aerial photo's of your cropcircles?

My son loves it, bearing in mind he's only 2 and a half and likes anything with wheels, so downloaded demo and had a go, although he did get bored after 20mins.

 

A modding potential and 4 player co-op...hmmm...I wonder if this could be turned into Grand Theft Livestock...

 

All you knocking this, I'm actually taken by it so at least someone is!

 

I have been laughing till I'm horse. It's a good job I don't have to goatu a gig and sing tonight.

 

Reviewing this game sounds like looking for fun in a haystack.

I think the concept of a farming simulator is something that is marketable... Farmville anyone? But it must be balanced. No one really wants to spend 4 hrs actual plowing a field like farmers do in RL. I occassionally play "John Deere American Farmer". Its a decent sim, but doesnt take forever to do things. Plus the speed is adjustable. That game also incorporates not only crops, but cattle, dairy, hogs, and various other hobby type crops to make money. You also have to buy all your equipment at the beginning of the game so you may start out buying barns and such for cattle and a few dozen cattle, rather then spend ridiculous amounts of money on tractors and implements for crops the first year.

 

We'll be making jokes till the cows come home at this rate

I'm kind of worried about the kind of people that you a tractor reviews like this.

I dunno, i'm rather sheepish around girls.

 

Funnily enough I actually do play this game, on 20mins at a time but it can be rewarding, I'm a farmer in RL when not at uni and the amount of mods for this is truely amazing, you can DL corvettes that goo 100mph if you want.. The map is dull but I've just DL intresting ones and so yeah, it isn't that bad a game its just they've made it abit plain cause they know most people are going to mod it and the vehicles.

Also loving the puns.

 

For someone who has 'real, actual farming experience you use a lot of simpleton terms in the article....

Also I play this game, and if your into agriculture then it can be good. If this is classed as boring, then surely you can class all simulation games like this? Look at flight simulator. You just fly a plane in the air for hours on end. That comes across as more tedious than exploring and building a landscape.

Plus, the 4 player co-op bit shows you obviously haven't bothered to explore the full features of the game. The multiplayer goes up to 10 IIRC, which is a little bit off from your estimate. Plus the little mention of Mutiplayer at all is disappointing as this is a major feature in the game.

Not a good review at all Bit Tech....

I just saw this game on Steam and I was laughing at it with my wife. That said, I do agree with ed_456 that a commercial flight simulator would be just as boring. What is it with these games that simulate jobs that nobody wants?

I've farmed a little in my life and while I believe it's a respectable way to live, I don't see why anyone would want to relive the experience on their computer. All the good parts about farming are connected with being outside and using your body. It's like if someone made a hiking simulator. Sure the graphics might be soothing, but it'd be missing out on everything that matters.
