You could put some invisible links on the page (in a 1x1px transparent gif for example) and check if the targets get downloaded.

Your site statistics? The hosting company should provide some control panel that breaks traffic down, like Webalizer. If you hide a big file it should show up if a few people download it through an all-links grabber like Fasterfox.

Like the #7 in this list from Webalizer; only 7 people downloaded the file but it made the top 10 as it's nearly 5Mb.

There are more certain ways, better if you have a lot of traffic, like generating an error message to your log if the Fasterfox user agent is recognised, or wiping that surfer's hard drive. Maybe someone has the code? :cooldude:

WebmasterWorld forums had some methods but they've gone subscription. :duh:

Im shore rtt knows as i think he did something to bit-tech to block it.

It had something to do with certain page headers.

What's the logic there? Take a 5MB file, download 7 times, and you have the ~35MB of traffic it used.

He just wanted to know "how do i tell if its working?". If the hidden file never shows in his logs, it's either working or he's had no visitors with Fasterfox set to strip every link. With the simple logs you get with most cheap hosting you maybe need a big file for it to show in the top 10.

The original suggestion (at WebmasterWorld forum) linked so as to hammer bandwidth on the Fasterfox author's or Moz's site, in the days before Fasterfox obeyed the robots.txt 'disallow'. :naughty:

But I'm sure there's another more certain way if his hosting package is capable; there are other site strippers besides Fasterfox so you could get false positives.
