my CPU temperature probe seems to be malfunctioning. its reporting temps constantly around ~87 degrees with good cooling and rock solid stability. Using a temp probe I found that this was very inaccurate. Its a p4 3.0 GHz on an intel 865 mobo. Is there any way to fix this problem? its annoying to have a bad readout because I can't tell when i actually have a heat problem.

Have you tried a BIOS update? Could just be something b0rked. Otherwise, there are temp probes you can put in your CPU socket and feed to a rheobus or the like to directly monitor CPU temp.

Ya, bios update and make sure the pins on the CPU are clean as well as the socket.

    Other than that.... :(
