Winamp, love the look and the organisation, that and iTunes, but iTunes was giving me issues with my ipod and my fresh reformat so.
i use WMP11 because it's easy to use, and apart from WinAmp, it is the only one works with my keyboard's media keys without window focus. but WMP is very slow with my 8GB of music, even on my quad core sig machine, it takes ages to come up with all the search results. will WinAmp be able to sense the media key press without having focus?
+1 Yes, Where is Amarok? Best Heavy weight *nix player. Used to use winamp back on v1.0 but 2.0 was to resource hungry and fubar'd up the file associations to much.
itunes is the worst program ever. It's slow if you give it more than about 3 tracks, it freezes, it lags up, and it takes ridiculous amounts of system resources to run. It doesn't let you properly organize things, it doesn't detect a lot of files, it won't even let you drag a selection box. Another apple application that forces you to do things their way, with no other way to do anything. foobar + panels = winner
I don't really use my PC for playing music. My iPod is in its dock next to the PC, piped straight into my amp. Much simpler than using any software IMO. I only use the PC for music when I've left my iPod somewhere or there's something I haven't yet transfered across. But: Winamp on the PC iTunes on OS X
I had used winamp for years; since at least 2004, but I've grown very fond of foobar recently, so use that. But WinAmp is still my favourite media player... haven't found any file it won't play straight from install.
I use Winamp. I kinda want to try foobar but it always seems to be quite a steep learning curve. Are there any good guides for beginners who are already happy with winamp, spec?
To be honest, you can get a very decent layout going just by using the WYSIWYG layout function in the new one, without installing any plugins. It even has a selection of presets to start you off. Beyond that, the hydrogenaudio forums are the main source of inspiration - and while they have a lot of knowledge they're basically a bunch of unhelpfull pricks. There are some guides on the net, and if you're willing to persevere with the Hydrogenaudio forums you can learn a lot. But to start off, certainly just give the thing a download and play around with the standard layouts, see what you like. edit: I shall perhaps make a quick introductory guide with the (very limited) knowledge I have, for the latest version of Foobar2000, once my exams are done. For now, I don't really have a lot of time to explain everything I'd want to.
I use a plugin for this called "Winamp [Key]Controller V4.0 (gen_wkc4.dll)" allows me to bind media keys to winamp even when its not in focus, great for controlling winamp during mid gaming
