So I often find myself at work non-motivated and not with as much energy as I would think I should have. I don't quite eat super healthy but I do try to keep the 3 meals a day going. Is this normal? I didn't find it something to see a Doc about but it bothers me sometimes. I enjoy being productive and I just don't have the get up and go I used to (and I'm only 23) Do vitamins really make the difference? I do know I drink a lot of sodas. I do enjoy them but I would really like to cut down on them. The problem is that I get horrible headaches if I don't drink them. Kinda strange posting this on a tech forum but you guys are prolly familiar with the circumstances and I'm sure Nexxo might pop in with some friendly advise as well.
I went through the same sort of thing a couple of years ago, i was eating breakfast, lunch and dinner but always at erratic times, i was also drinking alot of coffee and fizzy drinks (coke, fanta etc..) and it made me feel like crap i just couldnt be bothered to do anything, since then i drink very few fizzy drinks in a week and have tried to balance my eating times, I do feel alot better for it and seem to have more "life" about me. It may just be a placebo effect? i dont know the science behind it all, just that i feel good.
LOL I know what you mean but I don't think that's the case. I like my job and I like the people I work for so I can prolly rule that out. I have to be here at 9:00am and I often find myself rolling out of bed at 8:30, getting ready in 10 minutes and going out the door, eating a banana or something on the way. Maybe I should get up earlier and do something?
I can explain the headache part. Your addicted to caffine, and caffine is a drug. When you stop your dose of caffine your body reacts to it with a Headache. And if you drink drinks with lots of sugar it will give you a boost for alittle bit but then the sugar wears off and you find yourself more tired then when you started. That used to happen to my dad when he was younger and then he stopped drinking caffinated drinks and he started eating healthier and it went away. Hope this helps.
Oh, alright then. The fact that you roll out of bed 30 minutes before you have to be at work, followed by a ten-minute prep and mad dash for work (and one banana on the go does not constitute a breakfast) tells me that you go to bed late as well. How many hours of sleep do you get? Do you wind down in the evening so you fall asleep fairly soon? Cut the sugar. Your blood sugar is probably bouncing all over the place. And you already have withdrawal symptoms --Tim92 is right on the money. You're probably dehydrated as well --the sugar in the sodas cancels out the hydration, because you pee more to stabilise your blood sugars (either to flush them during glucose highs, or the water released by the liver along with stored glucose during the glucose lows). My advice: go to bed earlier, wind down beforehand so you get a good, long restful sleep. Get up earlier and have a proper breakfast, e.g. porridge. Don't make going to work a mad dash --give yourself time. Drink lots of water (green tea is OK too), avoid sodas, cut down on coffee for a while. Don't ever skip (proper) lunch, and make sure you have a proper evening meal.
I'm kind of in the same boat, it could be a metabolism slowing down thing. This is what would remedy it: sleep more eat more frequently eat fruits and veggies exercise find something to look forward to - a BIG influence on work motivation in my opinion
You are right, I am addicted to caffeine. I knew that much, I just need to find a way to slowly get off of it so much to keep the headaches away. I think you're right, Nexxo, I do piss a lot and prolly for the reason you provided. The problem with breakfast is that I need something cheap and quick. I guess I'm not near as healthy as I assumed. I pretty much go to bed at midnight every night and wake up at 8:30 I would really like to get up earlier as well. It may help with having more energy by "preparing" for the day. What are your opinions on vitamins?
Exercise always helps me when I am starting to feel sluggish. In addition to what everyone else has said about caffine and sugar and sleep.
I went cold turkey off caffeine, couldn't move for 2 days, but it was worth it. I love coffee so much that I just drink decaff. That probably makes me a ***** but at least I don't feel like ****. I think that figuring out how much sleep you need is something that you're going to have to do too. I assume it's different for everyone, I think around seven is best for me, if I sleep much longer I feel sluggish in the morning. Then there's what Ramble said.
At work, when you're feeling really low on energy. Tell anyone who asks, the Internet said it was okay.
I appreciate your enthusiasm but it has unfortunate side effects like blindness, hairy palms and Mankz Syndrome (kinda like carpal tunnel except messier) I got up this morning at 7ish and did a couple small chores. I ate a proper breakfast and took a multi-vitamin. I'll cut my caffeine off at 11:00 today. So far I do feel physically better, so I guess it's working I just get frustrated sometimes because I am constantly wanting to better my quality of living (which isn't bad as it is) but I just don't have the go-juice to make it happen all the time. I work 50-55 hours a week and I like my home to be in order. I don't like coming home to a dirty house when I've had a long day. I'm constantly finding myself thinking of things that I want done but not enough time/energy to do it. I think if I can treat myself better and get up earlier I can gain some of that extra time to get some stuff done. I feel I'm more motivated in the morning anyways. I think it is a matter of being ambitious, just my body couldn't keep up with my ambition with the current diet/lifestyle. Now, thanks for listening to my sob story bullsh*t.
