im wondering a few things. 1. if I have mp3's encoded at 128kbps and burn then to a cd and re rip them as a variable bit rate ogg will they sound any better? 2. What are a good set of headphones for ~50$ (cans w/ noise cancelation preferred)? 3. Will i get better quality from a variable bit rate .ogg(usally came out at about 500ish kbps) then say a high bit rate wma or sumthing? 4. (for future refrence) Does acutical material soundpoof, and is it a great improvment on sound? And is there a cheep way of doing this because i know most acoustical material is really expencive.
first question: no, because it'll be burned at a "stretched" 128kbps (wav size, 128k mp3 quality). Its impossible to gain quality without reripping the full-quality original.
what is the soundproofing for? headphones around that price... hd477's sennheiser .ogg is better than wma imho just rip it at the highest bit rate you can for space reasons or if you cant tell the difference why bother ripping it higher.
1) It's impossible to create musical information that wasn't in the original. Anything made from a 128kbps will never more information than a 128kbps, unless you upsample, but that's debatable and unusual in the under $200 range. 2) I am a Grado man, if you stretch your budget by $10 you can get SR-60s. If tht's not an option, I've heard people reccomend Senn PX100s.
