Thinking of getting the GF an iMac for Xmass... She used macs in college for photoshop n premiere work n instead of getting another pc in the house i thought a mac would be a nice change..

    Few questions..

1: Where's the cheapest/best place to get one?
2: Has software(adobe photoshop/premiere) been updated for the intel chipset yet?
    3. Doest the monitor(20" model) have any inputs.. Would like to still be able to dock her laptop using the macs monitor.
4: I take it that i can use a mac on the same network as my pcs using the inbuilt wireless.?. Is it possible to access the mac from a pc n vice versa over a network.. ie. to share files.?.
5: Does all software have to be writen for macs to work?? Ie. if i download something off the net i take it that it has to be mac specific??

Prob have more but cant think at the mo.. I know absolutly nothing about macs, suppose half the idea of getting one is for me to mess about on it

Any advice that can be thrown my way will be much appreciated..

1.Because there all one brand and watever there usualy about the same price everywhere, but id go to an Apple store or ring Apple direct if i were you as you can get discounts. i.e. educational etc.
    2. I dont think that there are any intel versions of Adobe yet, but im sure they are being planned.
    3. No, i believe it has an output though.
4.Yes, you can share files between pc/mac over a network, (wireless or wired)
5.Yes all software does have to compatible with Mac, although with the intel macs there are programs like crossover which let you run Windows apps on Mac OSX.

    Apple store online, or locally
2: Has software(adobe photoshop/premiere) been updated for the intel chipset yet?
    No, probably early next year

Does not have a video input, does have mini DVI out
4: I take it that i can use a mac on the same network as my pcs using the inbuilt wireless.?. Is it possible to access the mac from a pc n vice versa over a network.. ie. to share files.?.
yes, it's a setting under system preferences > network> windows sharing

for the most part you can find equivalents of windows software for the mac, in order to perform correctly, it needs to be a universal binary so that it is compatible with intel macs
