Hi guys my missus has recently bought me a copy of FFVII the EA platinum edition for my Bday (I HATE EA!!!!) anyways... I installed it fine and I keep getting black screens where I should be getting movies, which says to me a codec problem? So I went here http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?p=598663#post598663 I Dl'd the patch and still... no help... I tried installing some ACE codec pack which turned into a load of BS!! I've tried 95 compat mode, and still no joy!!! I REALLY want to play this game so please guys if there anything i've missed or havent tried let me know here!!!! btw my spec is 3.0GHz P4E, 1GB of 400Mhz ram, 6800GT GFX card, SB aud2 zs pretty much whats in the sig!
You using Vista or XP? I tried out the PC version on my XP system many moons ago and it seemed to work fine. I thought it was Eidos that published the PC version of FFVII?
FFVII was a bit tempermental with my pc running XP too. No idea what it was. Randomly crashed now and again - save as much as possible
Neo: yeah its XP and tbh mate until i saw the case I though it was an edios only title to!!! Shadow: I'vd love to save it as much as I could but I cant even get the bugger past the NEW GAME/CONINUE screen :S What happens is this... 1: double click the FF7 icon 2: Black screen 3: press ESC 4: new game/continum screen (sound works fine!) 5: click new game 6: black screen (I'l leave it for 10 mins come back and nothing!!) 7: CTRL-ALT-DEL 8: Repeat as 1 I mean I could DL the virtual machine thingie but I dont have a copy of 95/98 and wouldnt want to ask for illegal one here incase im breaching rules! But that would run it fine and I wouldnt mind that!... In a hypothetical situation of course... If anyone has a "legitimate" copy of 95/98 please contact me so we can "discuss" where I could perhaps "obtain" such a copy
I never had a whole lot of luck with FFVII PC - for some bizarre reason, the wonky download Ultima Edition I've got installed in a Parallels VM plays much better than anything legit I've installed in either XP or Vista. In fact, I can't get the Vista one to start at all anymore. I'd play around with the 'force 640x480 mode' option and there's one other (disable visual styles?) that seem to have helped in the past; if those don't work, PM me and I might be able to help out in alternative ways
there is a patch for XP floating around out there, i'd do a google search for it. Its built into the Ultima Edition that floats aroun on P2P...
