Figure you've got a complicated sex life? Thats nothing!

An appeals court on Friday upheld a judge's refusal to dismiss a sexual abuse allegation against a 13-year-old Ogden girl who became pregnant by her 12-year-old boyfriend.

The Utah Court of Appeals says the law's "rigorous protections" for younger minors include protecting them from each other.

The decision leaves the teens in the odd position of each being both a victim and a perpetrator in the same offense.

"The Legislature certainly may act to protect the health and safety of children, and may more vigorously protect those of more tender years," Judge Gregory Orme wrote for a three-member panel of the court, which made its decision "with some reluctance."


I love it when laws are so messed up that things like this can happen, and there is absolutely nothing anybody can do about it - as obviously common sense will never touch this case.

humm..12 and 13. maybe they should be dissowned and let them have the child together someware far far away. Or maybe im being harsh but when did it become a good thing to have sex at 12 or 13? i dont evan remember girls at that age (am i just strange??)!!

But i agree that the law has got a bit OTT on this front, but itll get sorted out with an added clause soon enough.

Being a die hard christian isn't a bad thing... It's just in this day and age most people don't really care about "morals" from the bible's/god's viewpoint. It's also that people don't understand it because they haven't taken the time to.

Still... I can't decide whether this is sad, funny, or a paedophile's fantasy. I'm going to go with funny, as it sounds like the charges are against the pregnant girl. Clearly we need to reponder the laws a bit, but this is just stupid.

Anyhoo, back on topic, the schoolgirl mum isn't unusual, though the 12yo dad is maybe less common, can't remember me being able to raise more than a laugh at that age.

"Utah law says minors under age 14 do not have the ability to consent to sexual activity", says the link, but the minimum age of wedlock in Utah is only 15 (with permission from a court) so she's just an early-learner on that ability. He's a child prodigy.
