Take that, MIAA and RIAA! Valenti and Bainwol's appeal against the U.S. District Court ruling that P2P networks are legal has been essentially thrown out in the street and stomped on. :D

    This from the Beeb:

Fans of file-sharing have been handed a significant victory by a US court.
Federal appeal court judges have ruled that the makers of peer-to-peer software are not responsible for what users do with their network.

They said the structure of the networks made it impossible for the system's creators to exert control over users.

The decision is a blow to the US movie and music industries, who were seeking damages for copyright infringement from file-sharing firms.

More here, and over at Wired:

I'm surprised more of you haven't joined in with Quack in an outpouring of unbridled joy over this news... I expected spontaneous street parties, ticker-tape parades for the Judges, the consumption of alcohol and a general, mass "YAH BOO SUCKS" to the RIAA & MIAA.

It's obviously been a long week for you all. ;)

I keep on getting letters from Paramount Pictures telling me to stop sharing their movies.

    Anybody else getting these?

    Totally ignored them of course...

Random email, or real snail mail? And of course, you wouldn't be giving them any reason to send you a letter in the first place, would you...

Real snail mail with dates, fileshare networks and IP adresses.

Must've had some legal files shared with the same names as some of their films :naughty:

That's as maybe - but it's not really the brightest thing to boast about on a public forum.
