How many of you use case filters so stop dust getting into ur cases?? Not sure wether i need them for my new build.
I don't bother. I just hoover out my radiator and the bottom of my case every couple of months. Things don't seem to get very dusty for me though - you might need them if you live in a dustier environment, I guess.
My own experience has been that having positive pressure in your case is more important than filters. I live in a very dusty house and negative pressure will suck air in from every possible opening in the case, making filters on only the fans somewhat ineffective. Having positive pressure with filters really helps because almost all the air entering your case had to pass by a filter. Currently have a HAF922 with slightly "negative" pressure, though. It's so open and mesh'd that it's hard to get pressure of either kind forming so I don't have a problem with it. Dust will settle on the bottom because not much stops it from getting in, but it's been my best case so far in regards to dust on my components and heatsinks.
Agreed ,I gave up with filters ages ago, I'd rather have the higher air flow as well. Usually every 6 months or so I have a total strip down where everything comes out and gets a good going over.
My sons is like that, he keeps it on the floor, when I put a new mobo in a few week back I found 1/2 a dog inside it, no wonder it fried. Well that and his dodgy overclocking lead to it's demise.
I have filters in two out of my five PC's (excluding laptop) but as I am still suffering major building works and have not been able to get access to them at all (they have been under dust sheets in the loft for the last four weeks), I expect to have to strip all of them down for a good vacuum once I can get at them. The point I'm trying to make here is the same as these ^. Even with filters you still have to clean out your rig, just maybe slightly less often.
I've only got one intake fan in my case and it's got a filter. I clean it about once every other month and I don't get that much dust in my case. When I do clean it though, it's always suprising how much dust I kept out of my case with that filter.
I made some for my HAF 932, as there's building work going on next door to my flat so dust is my bane
I use the stock one from my case, and, well.. that's it. I made a dust filter out of a pair of tights once, my case was on the floor, and had no dust filters, except on the PSU hole.. so I made some, they worked well.
i have an antec case which came with pre fitted filters and over the 3 years i have had it is alot less dusty than my previous cases. have to clean the filters ever fortnight tho.
Filters are nothing more than a mesh screen like what they have in dryers for clothes. Just vacuum it clean. What I found even more effective is to just get an air filter in your room. Something with a fine HEPA filter would reduce dust in your room all around.
Some filters can be made out of plastic foam-like material. I gently wash these in soapy warm water, rinsing thoroughly afterwards and leaving to dry.
I think the "just less of it" part means the filters are doing something right! Anyway, +1 for filters. If half the dust they collect on my 902 got into the case then I'd be cleaning the insides every fortnight rather than the filters once a month.
Oh, and talking of cleaning... What do people use to clean their lcd screens? I'm thinking a gently applied baby wipe could do the trick ...any other suggestions before a first go?
ive used baby wipes for lcd screeds and my plasma telly, they leave marks on tho why needs wiping away with lint free cloth, just use a dab or warm water and fairy liquid on soft cloth now. as for cleaning the mesh antec ones can be rinsed under a tap, then tap the filter on the side of the sink to get rid of the drops
