Upgrading cpu, mobo, memory, video. Read several reviews and have these parts priced out. Going for a mid range (heavy) gaming system, budget is in around $650USD +- $60. Can someone reassure me before spending? Memory has never been my strong suite and overclocking is mildly important.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 - $188

    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R - $109

    PNY XLR8 4GB DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $59.99

    Radeon HD 4870 1GB - $265

    Total is roughly $625.

    Appreciate any insight

Side note, I am using my old systems psu, will this be fine?

I would get an ASUS P5Q instead of a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R, what PSU are you looking at?

What is the difference between all the Asus P5Q's? I notice there is a Premium/Deluxe/Pro/-EM/etc. Again, I probably won't be getting a second video card and overclocking is a plus but not my main objective. I just want a solid gaming system.

I will be using the psu mentioned in the original post.

    Thanks.

I havent been reading to much on the P5Q but their really good for ATI GPU's especially what you're doing right now, your PSU will have a hard time using all those components I would suggest a 600W+

You might want to save some money by getting an E8400.

Never heard of PNY RAM. I'd look into some else brand like Corsair, OCZ, G.Skill etc...

Coolmax isn't exactly a good brand, I'd definitely ditch that PSU and get a new one. You really shouldn't skimp on the PSU as if it fails it'll usually take every other component with it. And old cheap PSUs are really not reliable.

And no need for 600W+ PSU, a Corsair 520W should definitely do the job. :thumb:
