Well it's been a while since i posted something here. I recently have switched camps to apple. And find my self at a conundrum. I can't decide which of these software suites to go with. Both can be obtained for around the same price (CS6 through a 12 month subscription) I am coming from Magix Movie Make 17/Sony Vegas Home. The gear i am running it on is the following. Apple 21.5" imac, Core i5, 16GB DDR3 (ram coming tomorrow). The cameras i shoot with are the following. Canon Rebel T3i Panasonic HC-V700 Just looking for some input.
Apart from running on a Mac without the use of virtual environments, what do you want to do in Final Cut Pro or Premiere that you can't do in Vegas? I use Vegas at work (and at home), and my coworker had it running on his Macbook Pro for a while until he switched to Final Cut Pro. All 3 suites have their strengths. If you are looking to adopt a new editing software, and if you use other Adobe products, you'll really enjoy how integrated they are with Premier. Other than that, it's really horses for courses.
well for one my version of vegas (it's not vegas pro) won't run on a mac and i'd rather not bootcamp. Mostly cutting together videos from my church around 30-45 minutes each.
If these are basic videos that don't feature many fancy effects, then you might look into Premiere Elements. It's really not that bad for home and semi-professional work, and costs much less than the full package.
i might give elements a try it's been a while since i last used it (version 4) and see how well it handle AVCHD. Update: I took a look at adobes site and elements is out as on osx it only runs in 32bit mode which is useless to me since i have 16GB in the computer.
ya that's the impression i have been getting from using the trial. Now i just got to save up some cash so i can afford the license.
Premiere Pro CS6 definitely, if you look at the reviews of Final Cut on the Mac App store they aren't good, and Adobe has always been popular for its creative suite, I believe they take the lead in this area of software
There were a lot of people who were upset with Apple when Final Cut Pro X was released because they felt that Apple were "dumbing down" the editing suite. Depending on who you ask, the fears were either unfounded or completely valid. As I said earlier, one of my close coworkers uses Final Cut Pro X (he switched from Sony Vegas Pro after he moved from PC to Mac), as do a number of other people in my overall group. They all speak highly of it. Other members of my group use Premiere, some use Avid, others use different programs, and I use Sony Vegas Pro. It all really comes down to what you want to do and the approach with which you are most comfortable.
Premiere CS6 is very nice.... but then again, so is FC... it's all down to what you are used to using. If you like final cut, get final cut.. it won't do anything that can't be done with premiere, and vice versa. Final Cut's interface looks very basic to me, and while initially seeming easier to use, that's often a sign that more advanced features are in fact less easy to use as they're often hidden away instead of being in plain sight... just to make things look prettier. Use both, make up your own mind, and buy whichever one suits you best. I can only ever give you my own personal opinion.
I've used Premiere alot. However it's too professional/complex for pretty much any regular person. Reviews on Final Cut X are pretty much useless. Try it. Make a video or two and make up your mind
