Square's latest attempt at salvaging their massive flop of an MMO is going live on the 27th, following a final open beta last weekend. Those willing to pre-order or who already purchased Final Fantasy XIV at any stage also have early access starting on the 24th. Furthermore, those who already purchased the game will be able to play for free until September 9th. After checking out the open beta over the weekend it's hard to believe this is the same game as the 1.0 launch version, or the 2.0 attempt at reworking it. The menu layout is far more similar to typical MMOs (read: WoW) consisting of windows and panels, doing away with the FFXI style text menus. A proper quest line actually exists, capable of levelling a character without grinding repeatable quests. Dungeons are reworked to feel a bit more WoW-like with an automated cross-server group finder to take the effort and thought out of them, though they have some refreshingly interesting boss fights even at low levels. PvP in some form is on the books, but this is likely to adapt as feedback is implemented. Overall it seems worth a download for anyone who already owns the game and might want to see if it's the game they were hoping for on release.
not quite true those that have purchased the FFXIV 1.0 and have legacy status are allowed early access. I did not sub the first version even though i bought it so i have to wait till the 27th. Also i agree with above though. Its worth a look and can be judged on its own not dismissed because the first one flopped massively. Its never gunna be a WoW killer (i hate that media try to compare everthing to WoW) as no MMO since or yet to be made will have the same level of subscribers. Its just not going to happen. I believe its on track though to be successful. The beta was rammed and lots of positive comments and buzz has cme out of it. Personally im excited the game held my attention and im looking forward to going back on the 27th. the only thing i will say is the early levels (1-20) are very very easy as they are designed as a tutorial to the game which slowly introduces you to the features of the game. If anyone is playing or is going to give it a try from here, please look me up Blackstarr Strife - Cerebus server
Yep turns out I didn't get the whole story, you need to have subbed three months. Those eager to play the early access, however, can pre-order the game on Amazon to get an early access code, then cancel their pre-order. Key word is slowly, but it does a pretty good job imo. Between the surprisingly helpful tooltip pop-ups and step by step introduction of mechanics it's very smooth starting out. Anyone on NA servers look for Sleepy Sloth on Ultros.
I played the original and the beta and the beta is not bad at all. Visually the game is beautiful, you want to play it just to walk around and be immersed by what it has to offer the eyes Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
I'm experiencing massive lag on EU servers; however, my mate isn't. Thinking it was my net connection, I created a toon on a jap server and have no issues at all. Can't understand why I'm getting the issues yet my pal isn't. I'm putting it down to S**T server planning by bundling the NA and EU clusters together and putting them in Canada... I'd have loved to have been present when that idea was pulled from someone's arse....
No lag here, though US to Canada isn't such a strech... Only issue I've been having server wise is 1017 errors. Server's constantly full by afternoon and stays full until late enough in the evening for eastern timezones to start logging off. On one side is frustrating not being able to play, other the other it's nice to see how many players there are. The "release" technically starts today so there'll just be a few more.
I'm on phoenix.. when I can get on that is. I'm pretty disappointed by the re-launch. Not the game, just the poor logistics and server planning. They will have known how many units they shifted from pre-release sales and should have had contingency servers to bring online. As it is, there's millions of players who paid extra for the early access who now can't play at all unless you get lucky at logon. Why make such a great title and back it up with crap admin and hardware?
They're adding to their clusters in the coming days/weeks to allow greater player capacity and more servers and will be giving free character transfers to those who had to roll on a server not of their choice.
Unfortunately, much of the player-base is contributing to the problem. With the lack of an automatic inactivity logout some players are simply not logging out to save themselves from dealing with wait time logging in when they next want to play. Fills up server space with dead weight for hours at a time. Ironically, these are often the most vocal people to complain about server space issues.
I'd rather they stay full than empty like swtor did at launch, that was horrific Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4
I reached level 5 on a NA server but managed to get on the EU server (muggle) this evening so only a little replay needed.
They are apparently increasing the player capacity for each server. 'Hopefully' this will solve the stupid 1017 error.
I'm Surren Starr on the Cerberus (EU) server if anyone wants to join me at some point. My primary class is Pugilist, working towards Monk and I've just started adding some Conjurer training so I can switch to healer later down the line if my group needs some additional support. I'm not on much after 7pm at the moment as BT are being a nuisance and throttling the connection to the client because they think it's a general P2P program. Going to have to give them a kick to fix it before I can play properly in the evenings.
Missed potentially 10+ levels because of this 1017 error. I know that sounds sad but the fact you pay for a game and you can't play it is a tad annoying.
I had that problem too when I first started ARR. I was on Option 3 Unlimited broadband, but this was subject to P2P throttling despite having unlimited downloads. I called the Options team and they transferred me to the new Totally Unlimited Extra which isn't subject to traffic shaping and is actually £5 a month cheaper. Give them a ring. Mine was sorted and changed over within 12 hours.
