Exactly what I was thinking... such a shame that people are already criticising a game that they haven't even laid hands on. Everytime I hear talk of GTA IV (or further delays of the release of Assasins Creed on PC) it makes me want to get another 360, especially now with the price drops.
I hate GTA on consoles the draw distance is useless! I actualy got run over repeatedly on the PS2 version as cars matirialised in thin air!
Considering there isn't any gameplay videos out yet, you cannot judge graphics at all. SA trailers looked worse than the actual graphics of the game on the PS2, go and watch them again. You can't judge trailer graphics to in game graphics, although it is ingame (like BF2 trailer etc), it looks different when on a HDTV.
I found that to be one of the many entertaining aspects of the game. No really, I loved some of the bugs. I remember in GTA 3 I was driving along in a car, it then suddenly stopped and the back end sunk into the ground, then stopped, leaving the front end of an estate sticking out of the middle of the road. Laughed my ass off I did.
I'm really looking forward to this. I've played the GTA series right from the start (The original top down version in DOS!) and it's one of the few games I've been inclined to play until the end. The question is, do I buy the PS3 version or wait for the PC as I have in the past? I've always been frustrated by console incarnations of GTA because of long load times, bad draw distances, bad quality textures, etc.
Mookboy I see your point. However what I mean by GTAIV being the next truly 'Next Gen' title (don't get me wrong I seriously dislike the term) is that I think the game as a whole will offer a big step up in all areas. Not just the eye candy or number the of polygons it takes to render each strippers left arse cheek, but the physics engine and scale and detail of the place. I also think it's not just going to be simply more of the same like Halo 3 was/is (in my opinion). What I hope GTAIV can do is drag my into the game like GTAIII did when it was released. I can remember many nights spent laughing my head off with a load of mates just causing mayhem in the city. On another note this whole graphics issue has been played to death (not just here but everywhere). The GTA games have not and probably will not have the greatest graphics. I think the nature of what Rockstar tries to achieve with each of its instalments leads to compromises. But I do wish those bloody trees wouldn't pop up 6ft in front of my face when I'm flying like a lunatic. Or the way you can see the cars first then the head lights etc. It's all about the gameplay! Lets hope it lives up to the hype.
one of the best bits is that gta4 uses euphoria, a prosedual(sp?) physics engine that dynamically creates animations based on variables such as power of force applied to the character etc. also they should try and save them selves if they get pushed off a ledge, grabbing onto ledges etc. theres some vids demonstrating it in the new indieanna game on youtube
Procedural ? http://www.naturalmotion.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae3fgj2x1aI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SalN1PiwHZU This one is quite funny but go forward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fACZMsKN7fk&feature=related
I thought the draw on SA wasn't too bad (on PS2). I can't wait to get drunk in game. The engine will simulate blurred vision and impaired movement input/output. Tearing around LC drunk will be amusing! The multiplayer aspect sounds great, and the Social Club sounds like it can add a great deal to the game and multiplayer develpoments in the future.
First two ingame screenshots I believe in the new Aussie ZOO magazine. IMO, the graphics look a hell of a lot better than the trailers (expected tbh). Looks like it's gonna be good! One thing I'll have to get used to is the minimal HUD, hopefully there will be settings to turn it on eh?
