    Slightly off topic:

Why do all car stereos have to look like they were designed by some 5 year old with lots of colored crayons? What if they made some simple, well designed front and made some sort of backlight that could be adjusted to match the interior lights that is originally in the car?

Driving at night with a small disco in the center console isn't doing anyone any good.

The player in my current car is displaying the track number and the clock. That's it. I like it simple. :) It's the factory player which can only play standard CDs, though. :(

Just in case anyone still has one of these kicking about that has developed the screen issue I can now post a fix up, can confirm this works

    1) remove unit from car

    2) remove face plate

    3) remove two screws on side of unit and single screw on top of unit (with the front part facing towards you)

    4) remove the 2 screws holding down the CD mechanism (will be right at the front)

    5) lift the cd mechanism off and place it towards the back of the unit, can sit there or you can carefully remove the ribbon and put it to one side

    6) on the front right hand side corner and edge will be two banks of resiters marked '2R7'

    7) gently heat these resistors up and allow the solder to reflow, use some rework flux if you have it

    8) you may wish to apply a dab of solder too, ensure there are no solder bridges

    9) enjoy a working screen!

you may find some of the resistors actually come off as your heating them up, this is the fault, the solder joints are 'dry' and after while just break totally

    good luck everyone!
