Put my order in for a Macbook yesterday :)

After wanting one for ages and having the chance to use one at work, the urge got too much.

Takes too long for Delivery though :hehe:

Yeah, the week that my MBP was shipping felt more like a month. I love my MBP aside from a few minor problems. I can't see myself going back to having only windows.

Grats. You will love it. I got my first Macbook a week ago. Initially I just bought it to use as a pc laptop with XP installed via bootcamp but now I find myself using OS X more.

Welcome to the club. or er, cult?

After the first couple of weeks, you'll never want to go back to windows.

(I was just reading the thread about how vista 64bit will not be available anytime soon and I had to laugh. OS X has been 64 bit for years....)

Mines just an older 700 Mhz G4, but it does what I need it to do. I'm thinking about getting an upgrade processor kit for it, but if I do that I might as well buy a new one. I dont really want to invest more money in older technology.

    common misonception!!

only little slices of OS X are 64 bit. nothing really major though. all the applications are 32bit, for example. (it's not a real advantage and certainly nothing to brag about over "M$")

a good portion of it is 64 bit, but most systems that run OS X aren't 64 bit machines, in fact, for the most part (unless core 2 is 64 bit), the only ones that run 64 bit truely are the new mac pros, and xserves

Don't the G5 processors from IBM have a 64bit instruction set? That would bump the list of 64bit Apple machines to:

    • G5 PowerMacs and XServes
    • G5 iMacs
    • Intel Core 2 Duo machines including MBP, Mac Pros and even the standard MacBook

linky to the Apple Technical page for the original G5 Power Mac

I've been looking at getting my own mac, was that close to ordering a mac mini yesterday but decided I'd wait a bit longer and do a bit more research on what exactly I want and upgradability etc, unfortunatly I think a Mac Pro is a bit out of my price range unfortunatly, shame. So I guess I'll also be joining the mac club sometime soon!

Not flaming here, but what sort of upgradability are you looking for? While its true that the Mini has no expansion card slots of any type, there have been several modding projects that revolve around processor replacement, 3.5" drive additions and more.

I personally want a Mac Mini as the keystone for a carputer...but thats just me ;)

Ah yes, what I meant to say was that I do fancy a mac mini but theres a remote chance I might get the basic version of the mac pro and upgrade it myself since it would be cheaper than buying a higher end pro. But due to the price I may just get the mini and leave it as it is. (Since I can get the mini soon but would have to wait a while before getting a pro - saving up :(!)

    Yep :)

Or, you could just get the cheapest used Mac Mini Intel Core you could find and slap a C2D processor in it :)
