Its time! my 7900 has served me well over the last 4ish years and runs every game out even Crysis and GTA IV, obviously at low setting but they are still essentially playable! Im looking to spend about £200 on my next card and I really want this card to last a while. I could keep saving until I have £300 but I can’t justify paying just a huge amount for a graphics card. I want to stick with Nvidia and the obvious choice is the GTX 260 such as this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/896M...6MHz-216-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDTV-plus-FarCry-2 Im not in that much of a rush to buy ASAP and I really want my money to be well spent How long do you think it will be before a better card i.e. the GTX280 is around this price? I know it’s a strange question but I just don’t want to buy a card and then theres a sudden price drop or something. I know its hard to predict things like this but I guess im just looking for some encouragement I guess Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
I've just done what you are considering and upgraded from a recently purchased 9600gso and before that a 7800GT to a gtx260, the improvement is stark and large, Nvidia have just refreshed the gtx range by moving to 55nm so i doubt there is a new product just around the corner (i.e the next month), longer term than that and there is always something just around the corner!
Thats true. I suppose theres no point hanging on, waiting for a price drop and effectively just losing a couple of months worth of usage. My screen is a 32” HDTV so the max res I will be running is only 1920x1080, so a GTX260 should do nicely. CEX will also give me £13 each for the two free games that come with that particular card.
