finding a bank that an account is with?

hi all, im trying to find out which bank an account is held with, is there anywhere online i can check by using the sort code?
or if anyone works in a bank and can tell me the sort code starts with 07, and i know its not a lloyds account

but I'd await confirmation from someone to be sure (that was from a random newsgroup post)

edit - apparently first two digits may not be limited to a single bank.

anyone know if theres a cut off for paying cash over the counter at a nationwide?
some banks i think cut off at 3pm, anything paid in after that doesnt show til the nest day right? its cash btw not a cheque

 

AFAIK Nationwide cash deposits are processed same day, right up to close of business. Anyone able to confirm?
