how bout a pre-made usb one?
could mod that baby to pieces. use one of the "front usb" connectors from the motherboard you know? instead of mounting it on the front of your case, plug the USB and leave it inside, and mount the fingerprint scanner on the front *rid it of the beige exterior of course* and mount it in a case badge spot maybe?

wouldnt that look slick? kinda like a tiny VFD but for your finger :eeek:

this would be sweet. how about it zapwizard? does this tickle your fancy?

had an idea of a fake biometric scanner some time ago.

a transparent touchswitch, servoengines and a cold cathode. when you place your hand on the switch, the cathode 'scans' your hand and then switches power.

    Penni: I like that idea....

I support brokers and traders in the stock markets. One of my traders had one for a Bloomberg terminal. We had to remove it cause it really did not work too well. Hmmmm, I'll have to see if its still around and see what’s wrong with it. Could be fun.

I considered it for Metaversa. Still am, to some extent. But I'm not sure where I'd place it; the power button location would be the most logical (I'd switch the PC on by keystroke combo instead).

I've already got one (a parallel one) and it's pretty decent for logging in (and therefore locking etc)

Kinda forgot all about it. I was going to sly it behind the usb flap on my pc60... might have to bring those plans back to life!

Ive thought about this for some of the doctors/medical billers i help... they need ways to make sure that the system cannot be used by anyone but staff... however all i would need is it not to work and have to go pull it...
