oh boy, i decided to overclock my pc spme more, heard the dreaded beeps so had to take my case panel out to reset the cmos bios jumper, done all that placed the cover back on (i was lucky i didnt screw the panel back on) put the pc on, all of a sudden black smoke started to pour out of the fan outlet from the window panel fan at this time the led fan had turned off. i go to press the power botton (damn thing was on a 4 second power off mode). waiting for the four seconds to count down i noticed a flame had started up in my case, (nice and bright and orange and ...did i mention bright?) one hand was on the power button and the other was trying to remove the panel off. (note on a normal day i would just switch the psu off) Ok then, the power had gone off and i managed to take the case off and i saw the "fire". i blew and blew and the flame started to get bigger, i manged to puff the fire out after a few attempts. the remains (rip) tried the pc after running a big fan to get rid of the smoke and thankfully everything is working fine that was a close 1 looks like i shorted the wire from the led fan onto the case or something similar! ...but most of all the pc lives on
Fire!!! Any damage to the inside of the case maybe? Good to know everything is fine, especially that sexeh CNPS7000
same thing happened to me wen i took all the guts out of my comp i failed to notice that i had pulled the actual wires out of the plastic floppt power conector wen i put it all back together crackle crackle flames not much damage tho jus some melted plastic scary at the time tho
that happened to me but with two led fans when i tried to make my own baybus. It does produce quite a bit of smoke doesnt it
I'm sure i remember being told a few times that bundled cables get HOT. A few years ago now a similer prob when a cable warmed up and started to produce smoke. but i stopped it before any fire was about.
first off for some reason it wouldnt let me pm you. so sorry about this. those beeps have happened to me before an I had to take it to a shop to be fixed. and I dont fancy paying £10 for someone to take off a jumper and them put it back on, if thats all you have to do. please can you explain what you have to do to boot the system up if it doesnt stop the beeps thx keir.
Re: Re: Fire in the Hall You cant pm on these boards - reason's in the rules About the beeping - its usually because its overheating or you've clocked it too high. Simple solution is to reset the bios. Look in the manaul for the exact details but its pretty much the same on all boards. Unplug the computer from the mains. Then take out the battery on the motherboard. Now you need to move the CMOS jumper from one position to another and then back again. Replace the battery and turn the computer back on. The bios should be at default values now.
I managed to set something on fire a while ago - was my own stupid fault though. I soldered a 330ohm pot in series with an 80mm Delta fan. Needless to say, after watching the ceramic resistor casing crack it set on fire . Lucky escape for you there mate, that could've been nasty...
AHHHHH! FIRE! I've never had anything catch fire, or even just melt dramatically, but reading posts like these makes me think twice since I often leave my computer on and unattended for days...
