Hey i know a bit about building a pc but never done it before. Seeing as i will be turning 18 in november i want to build one with the money i get from my birthday :D.

I'll be using it for gaming, folding and also as my main pc. I was thinking of having a i7 CPU with about 1TB HDD with an additional 500GB HDD. Also the graphics would need to be good for folding to as currently i'm only using my ps3 to fold :(. Apart from that i don't have much preference about other parts.

Really i just need some suggestions with what works and what doesn't and also value for money!!!

    Thank in advance guys.

Have you got any bits already like case / screen / optical drive that you can re-use or do you need the whole thing?

I would go for an AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE build, with perhaps a Radeon 4870 or 4890

I suggest you mabey look at Storm20200's thread in which he's building:

for around £550, i've got a similar system in my thread but I only need the main hardware.

The GPU he has chosen above is not up to much at all. Better to go for a 4870 or 4890 as I said before, since he wants to game.

Fairly similar to what's previously been recommended, although i'd beef up the GFX card as it's for gaming. Avoid ATI if you want to Fold too, unfortunately, the Radeons are just crap when it comes to folding.

    My tuppence worth;

    Antec 300 - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Antec-Three-Hundred-Black-Midi-Tower-Case-w-o-PSU
    Phenom II X4 955 BE AM3 - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-...ion-Sok-AM3-32GHz-8MB-Total-Cache-125W-Retail
    Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGABYTE-GA-MA770T-UD3P-MOBO
    ASUS GTX260 896MB 216 Cores - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/896M...hader-1400-MHz-216-Cores-plus-Terminator-Game
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS3, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-...1333)-240-Pin-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24
550W Be Quiet Pro Dark Power Modular - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550W-Be-Quiet-Dark-Power-PRO-BN072-Modular-PSU-87-Eff
    1TB Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12 - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-SGATE-ST31000528AS-SATA
    Optiarc (Sony/NEC) AD-7240S-0B 24x DVD±R, SATA - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Opti...DVDDL-DVDplusRW-x8-RWx6-12xRAM-SATA-Black-OEM

    Total £621 inc. delivery.
Factor in another £50 for a decent HSF and a couple of case fans and you're within budget.

Thanks cookie monster i like Storm20200's setup but i would possibly change the GPU like fazed said - i like the nvidia 9600GT and also a different case - i want something a bit fancy :D

Fazed - thanks for your input i like the look of it but like i said i would change the GPU and case - i can't stand the Antec 300. i also prefer the look of the OCZ RAM instead of Corsair. What cooling/ fans would you suggest?? - i have no idea what-so-ever on the cooling front.

Nexus 120mm's are pretty good for the money, quiet too.

CPU HSF, I'd go for the Scythe Mugen 2

The 9600GT....it's a bit weak if you really are looking to game/fold. The GTX260 i mentioned will dance all over it.

i have to agree with fazed on the GPU. The 9600GT is a good card but the 260 is so much beter. you'll get loads more ppd on the 260 in folding and a lot more FPS in games with all the fancy stuff turned on..

If you read his thread mate its a build for his dad who doesn't game so it doesn't need an all singing all dancing card, it was just a suggestion of a rough system on the given budget.

My Rig (Main specs in sig) came to just over £600, could be less now prices have dropped.

If you want a full list, i can write it up.

I know its a different thread, like I said it was just a suggestion of the type of spec someone else has got for that price bracketand by the looks of it he's going along them lines with a few changes (i.e. the gfx card like he said), anyway let's not crap in the lads thread by having a bitch at each other like a load of girls.

    back on topic,

i've been looking at that cooler on their website, and i'm also interested as it can take up to 4 fans (one on each side) not that i'll be adding 4 fans, just 2. But you need extra clips to mount the 2nd fan, just incase you were interested.

Digitalize- - it would be great to have a look at your full just to see other options, thanks.

Cookie Monster - it's interesting that it can take 4 fans but i don't think i will add more fans to at to start with unless it was producing more heat then is reasonable.

Also another point - I would go for the 600W ModXStream instead of the 500W just to be safe.
