Sup everyone first id like to say im new to the forum and say hi to everyone. Secondly like to say Im going to build my first pc. Im kind of a newby at this stuff, but I know the basic's. I need some advice on what to buy. My budget is mmm around $1000 give or take a couple hundred. Im currently running a 3 year old Dell which is a 3.4 pentium 4, 1 gig ram, 256 meg video card and its just not doing the job any more. So I need some advice on what to get for a new pc. I do plan to use the hard drive and Cd rom out of my dell. Unless thats a bad idea. Sorry i kind of need my hand held through this. A buddy that worked at Gateway for 8 years buidling pc's is going to show me how to build a pc so im good in that part. But I need some advice on stuff i should buy such as motherboard, processor, ram, and all the other goodies (links would be helpfull). I mainly want the system for Gaming (Addicted to COD4).

    Thanks

:) You may find you existing PC is good enough with a decent gfx card in it, there's a LOT more to a gfx card than how much RAM it has. If you're stuck with AGP (vs PCIe / PCI-E) then options are more limited and you often pay a little more too, still might be worth considering unless you're itching for a new PC. I haven't checked recently but X1950Pro is about as good as you may get in AGP but it's still a very good card. If you build a new PC then you'll want a 3850 with 512MB as a minimum and it will of course be PCIe.

    Intel Q6600
    4Gb DDR2
    Abit IP35 Pro
    nVidia 8800GTS (512mb)
    Corsair / Enermax / Seasonic PSU 600W+

    That should cover it. :)
