    Spoted this over at AnandTech:

I caught this bit of news over at Gamespot.

When Valve announced Half-Life 2 in early May, some were surprised by Valve's firm insistence that the game would be ready to ship on September 30. Today we received word from the game's publisher, Vivendi Universal, that Half-Life 2's release has been delayed until later this year. Without commenting on the delay, a Vivendi Universal representative reaffirmed that the game would ship this year, sometime during the holiday season.

This does not really surprise me at all, but it is disappointing never-the-less.

    ** Update **

According to shacknews there is no delay for Half-Life 2.

A number of gaming sites out there are carrying word of an alleged Half-Life 2 delay according to some folks at Vivendi Universal who are publishing the title retail for Valve Software. However word doesnt seem to have traveled down to Valve according to an email pulled from the Steam forums. (We havent been able to directly confirm or deny with anyone at Valve yet) who might know a thing or two about that. timm of Shacknews comments fame already pointed out this Gabe Newell response:

First time I've heard about this.

That's the full article, but there's some comments here

    Who's right?

Half-Life 2 better not become Like Doom III. Cause if Valve can make sure that it is out before D3 then they could get alot of sales from the market more if they release it before Doom III.

I for one want Half-life 2 loved the first and all those mods for it the second should be just as good if not better for the plot line. hmmm maybe I'll go and play the original for a while :)

with game prices so high now a days, if they release at the same time they're gonna put a choise on people, these are some of the most antisipated games around. delaying them, means less bugs but at a price.

or i could go completly the other way and have more time to save up to upgrade the pc first....
