Hardware like this is a 'cheap' way to build a supercomputer, think China has one in the top ten which combines CPUs and GPUs...

...and surely there's a limit to how much mains power you can pull from the wall before the police come round and charge you with running a hydroponics farm (er... apparently...)

    Depends how you kit it!

Potentially up to £2,000 on Xeon W5580's, £800 on some Corsair RAM (Several 4gb kits), christ knows how much on the board, a small countries GDP on graphics cards, and a few families of legs and arms for the power supplies.

Is a kidney worth that much money? :p

Very, very silly. And I thought spending £500 on a graphics card was overkill.

Peter 'Shamino' Tan is one of the worlds best overclockers and one of the instantly recognisable names in the overclocking community (as in overclocking the sport).

This board was built purely to break 3DMark World Records. I cannot emphasise this enough.

It has been designed to take LN2 cooling - each component has been especially chosen for the overclocking best.

Anyone that needs a dual Xeon workstation can buy it from Dell (as I did for work), rather than build it from this board. This board is also cost ineffective when it comes to Folding or BOINC, considering other boards + GPU considerations on the market.

This is trichannel - you'll be buying 6gb/12gb/24gb kits for this board. Board will probably come in around £600 (think the Skulltrail platform) and depending on your graphics cards requirements, two 1000W+ PSUs.

I give it about 3 month's before C00lermeister builds another beast using one of these, housed in a heavenly modded Coolermaster case.

So how does it fold with a pair of hexas at 4GHz and 7 watercooled GTX295s?

    I reckon it's got a sporting chance but I think it'll struggle with Crysis 2!! ;D

Excuse me while I drain my keyboard of drool...

Overkill? Undoubtedly. Well beyond the wallet capacity of most mere mortals? Most certainly. Impractical? Completely. Does any of this mean that I no longer want one? Hell no!

    Sheer, unadulterated, geek porn.

    oh

    left out the word "know"

Out of interest do AMD do dual socket overclockable boards? I've only ever saw Intel ones reviewed here.
