I've currently got a Xigmatek midgard case... it looks almost identical to a Coolermaster 690. I'm looking to do abit of modding to it to spice it up abit, its pretty basic atm. Made a thread about this ages ago but I finish uni for a week or so before starting my new job so going to see what I can get done in a week before I start placement for a year. Main problems with the case: Its plain black everywhere, inside looks good but outside its just plain black. Ugly orange connectors inside the case for dvd drvies and pci-e connectors instead of screws. Case is too open, has a big grill beside the HDD racks, two big grills on the side of case, and the entire top is one big grill. God awful front pannel connector, picks up electrical static. LED orange fans which I'm not a fan off, there translucent as well with LED's Due to the big grills in the case the system seems to be quite loud at times. I'm using the cases fan controllers with both 120mil fans turned down and its still very loud, Probably the CPU heatsink. The GPU is also really loud at times when playing games. Not really certain what to do tbh. Looking for some ideas, I've no clue what to do, I dont mind doing anything completely drastic, its my first proper mod but want something cool and if I wreck the case I've a spare to keep me going. Main objectives for the mod would be, Make the case look nicer Make the case quieter possibly make the GPU quieter I'm uploading some photos of the case in its current state and I'll add these to the thread in a sec. Edit : budget wise nothing really expensive so no watercooling loops... Yet. Dont mind paying a little bit for some heatsinks for gpu and cpu. Pic's still uploading
OK I just took a look at what your case looks like. I have a couple questions for you to see where you want to go with it. Do you not like the black? Do you have a color preference? For all the orange plastic in the case, you could see about removing those pieces and painting them. Most of the pieces should be somewhat simple to remove. For the fans, you could disassemble them and paint the plastic blades a different color or go to your local supply shop and replace the fans. If you look hard enough, replacement fans can be pretty inexpensive. You can find silencing kits around the internet or silencing material such as sound dampening foam or rubber screws for fans which will dampen the vibration. You can also get screws with rubber grommets for the hard drives to reduce vibration noise. Quieting a GPU is a little more difficult. You'd have to look around to find GPU coolers on the internet that are quiet yet high performance, seeing that you are using a GTX 570 which I can imaging creates quite a good amount of heat. And now the xigmatek website isn't working on me!
Cheers man, I mite spray the horrible orange things tbh. Really cant decide on a colour scheme atm. Heres some pics of my case in its current state. Gona stick in a window definately, although I need to tidy up my cables but have to be like that to reach my fan controller atm
what about replacing the stock cpu cooler with something that has a bigger fan, better cooling and quieter. Also, if noise is a concern how about putting some sound deadening foam in to help reduce the noise that can escape. Paint the mesh on the front perhaps, custom wiring @ the perfect lengths tor each the components, sleeve the wiring. Duno, just the things that come to mind at first glance
I have the same case and am currently having the sides powder coated red and most of the plastic the same sprayed the same colour.
Spray the orange bits blue to go with your motherboard. Use resistors on the fans maybe? Get some cable ties Also needs a black tinted window
This is what I did with my son's Midgard to spruce it up a bit: I spray painted: the grills on the top & front the rear PCI cutouts the HDD trays sleeved the case cables, the SATA cables and the USB cables (but not the AX850 cables as they are lovely in black ) All in fluorescent orange. Also used Xigmatek fans to match the colour scheme.
Your right there, I have a great guy who does the powder coating on the metal bits very reasonably and a mate that is a car sprayer, which is great. But my next project, a little more ambitious, I will have a go at the spraying myself.
Good throw in another suggestion instead of using spray paint for the plastic try a plastic dye http://forum.overclock3d.net/index....e-the-colour-of-noctua-fans/page__hl__plastic quick guide to dying I'm going to try it on some of my brackets soon scythe make very silent coolers if your not overclocking something like a d-14 or silver arrow if you are. rubber screws help a lot as do low rpm fans(also bigger the fan more air it can push at lower speeds = less noise to performance) spray paint the metal on the case
