Hey guys, this is my first thread and I'm really excited to finally get around to being part of the community and start my newest mod.

Around 6 months ago I went to alot of businesses around Austin asking for old servers and computers because I wanted to make a render farm. After a month of collecting and building, I had a 75 node farm and my renders were 10-25 times faster. But, as with most good things, there was a problem. The thing created so much heat and used so much power that I had to turn it off. Luckily, my old highschool bought the farm from me and put it in an empty classroom.

Anyways, they didnt take the REALLY old servers, because those were just being used as sub master nodes. So I have a server case:

A Hewlett Packard Netserver Lh Pro with dual 400 mhz intel processors, 512 Mb ram, a dual input 1000 watt power supply, 5 SCSI hotswap bays (up to 3 gb a piece!!!omghaxasdljdhfjsdh).

This thing is bomb. Mainly the friggin beatly case.

Lots of room for play. Will need to rework the back I/O area a bit to fit ATX... unless I descide to go Skulltrail... But thats another thought entirely :D .

LOTS of room for the motherboard and some extra flash. Remember, the drive bays are over on the other side(the water cooling side).

Super cool SCSI hot swap. They wont be used but they're still cool.

Here is another problem... The drive bay is a few mm wider than the standard 5.25 now.
It requires these doohickies to fit the drives.

The cooling side. I'm sure I can fit 2 (or more) water cooling systems in here.

My babies seem to like it, yes, I am a giant talking rat.

So anyways, here are some main features I'd like to include:
    • Completely watercooled system
    • Touch sensitive buttons, mabye a modified fan controller. Anyone know how to make somehting like this? I'd like that alot.
    • use acrylic, aluminum and carbon fiber
    • minimalistic... nothing that screams, I want everything to be smooth and simple

I'm working on a CAD right now and I've got a few features that I'm holding from you until later.

Please tell me what you think, you guys know best. This will probably take a year to complete and I really need some feedback to make this work!

    Thanks,
    Pat

    Dirty floor...trash can...rats...Were you going for a theme?:hehe:
The first thing you do with a case like this is try to make it lighter, or do like John said and put wheels on it.

-Or you make it a REAL tank and add extra armor.:D

Well right now I'm looking at taking out the cd/dvd mount part and just putting the slot loading dvd in another position.

This will mean that I'll have alot of room. I'm just hoping I can think of something to fill that room!

If anyone is reading I've got a name for the mod.

    3030

And my theme is something like looking at what a computer would look like in 3030. I want it to seem as if its not even a computer at all, meaning no wires pcb, hard drives or anything like that showing, just acrylic and aluminum.

This will also include making covers for the the motherboard and gpu(s). And making a cool display for the liquid cooling.

I might be using Razer as a theme also, thereby changing the name (again) to Razer 3030, but we'll see.

I'm still working on some sketchup and CAD. I might just stop and us CINEMA 4D because im not the best at CAD...

    Back to thinking....

    @ Thim83
Nono never too old. This thing has sooooo much room, its amazing. I admit this will be a huge mod, but I don't care. If I'm putting the money into, it should be big ahaha

    @ Mr.Me

Well I'm in the same kind of endeavour with my Netfinity 5000 case, although I'm not going for watercooling. Yet.
see the pics here : http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=159403 (they are fairly big)
You should go the same way I'm going to go for the HDDs : buy individual backplanes and fit them in front of each disk. (search sata backplane on ebay, the ones I took run for $5 apiece and got free delivery)

I'm not sure how to put a youtube vid on here, but this is my updated design for the Case.

Yes, it is a variation on a theme of Wargames, now with better acting :D

Please give some suggestions. I'm ordering acrylic tommorow!!

    Check the Sketchup Video HERE!!!

Also, looking to use these connectors

Thats it for now, constantly working on ways to make this awesome!

    New Update

Got a few things in the mail today!!

    1. 3 Arduino Duemilanove's which will be used for the leds
    2. A lot (200) RGB leds for the lighting (all for free).
    3. Lots of acrylic

I'm also sending the chassis to a friend to get cleaned and sandblasted.

    Fun fun fun!

    +points on using Arduino.

I'm using it too, on PrometheusCU I'm using it to control the lighting systems.

    Looks really cool, goodluck mate!

    [edit]
What's the difference between the Duemilanove and the Diecimila?

    Could this be it?

The new Duemilanove not only has an expanded shield header with a 3.3V reference and a RESET pin (which solves the problem of how to get to the RESET pin in a shield) AND a 500mA fuse to protect your computer's USB port, but ALSO an automatic circuit to select USB or DC power without a jumper!

That's very cool... I may be in need of upgrade.

My only confusion now is why you need 3 of them.
