Hey all. I would love to build my own case or do some really CRAZY mod, but my damn parents dont like me to to anything big...so I have a crappy premod with a few things I modded, but nothing impressive (especially to you real modders). If you have any good Ideas that I could do that would be cool, take some work, but yet it has to not make my parents explode. Not a bad setup... Welcome to the boards. Could use a touch of that blue paint on the Enermax panel and the cardreader... other than that, it's a good start. Don't let the parent thing drag you down... I don't let my son mod his computer either, except the sidepanel (of course he's 4, but wicked with the dremel!)
LOL! I wish started with a dremel when I was 4! I just dont know where to find paint? Anyone know? I also have come up with an idea for a mod. I am gonna get some acrylic (possibly tonight) and then i am gonna build a cube (7 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 7 3/4") and I am gonna have a hing top. I will get a 20 x 4 LCD and eventually some lights inside. I am also gonna route some A/V ports to the front of it. I will keep some extra room incase I come up with something else to put in it. I am gonna route all of the connections from the box through a 25 pin d-sub connector from the Shack and mount another on the back of my PC. I will then be able use any 25-pin cable to connect it to my pc....that way i will be able to locate it anywhere I want.
Funny you should mention that mod with the 25 pin cable. I'm doing the same thing myself. Are you including the video connection, remote boot and reboot, remote HDD and power LEDs? Lemme know how that goes. Seriously. I've already gotten most of my KVM done and I just need to get a few more relays and some good RG 59 coax to make the VGA part of the cable and I'll be set. Unfortunately, the time involved and the recent starting of sophmore year in High School have seriously crippled my modding. But yeh, my parents bogged me down at first, but when they first began to realize the potential this had as a fine hobby [ better than video games, after all ]... Just wait till you get the job and the car
So you're a sophmore, me too. I think that if I just plow ahead with my plans, they will just say ok. As long as I show them that i can do it in my extra time I think they will be cool with it. I have a tuner/capture card and I want to relocate the ports from the back of the PC. And I am trying to come up with one more thing. I like the extra HDD light and stuff tho. I love LEDs. I have 2 HDDs...i figured out how to have separate lights for them....and also I could reroute the DVD and CDRW lights to it. That would be tight.
