Hey guys ty for the advice.

memeroot I think its really good monitor for that price unless someone can find me better for similar price :)
roosauce I took your advice and upgraded it to i5 560 as its cheaper and has x21 multi and I think it has HT. I'm not sure which 5870 you meant because the link was for cpu :p
It worked out about 45 pounds cheaper than the other one so I can upgrade something else.
btw the ram is not available only for pre order, should I get some other one?

    Thanks for the comments.

    Given the budget, I'd be aiming for an i5 760 + SLI'd 460s.

Well that's what I wanted in the first place, but I'm not good at computer build so this guys where helping me. In a way I understand from what they telling me that i5 760 is still good cpu (want to learn how to overclock it) and because I want a gaming computer its pretty good build.

I mean I wanted at first 5750 but then I read that 5xxx got too much problems with updates or something like that, than I found gtx 460 but then I started to read that they are very noisy use too much electric and too hot cards. so than silver told me about 5870 which is really good cards.
and from the list I can still spend like 960 and have some money left to upgrade something.

I mean I'm all open ears and if you have a good build bring it on :)

Unless you need 12GB or more of RAM or plan to go tri SLI/Crossfire, there's absolutely no need to get an i7 9xx processor - an i5 760 will perform identically for almost all applications - including gaming. In fact, you're probably more likely to get a better overclock on a 760! So, what I'm saying is that the 760 isn't a good CPU, it's a great CPU!

In regards to GPUs, the 5870 is a good card but a bit pricey. The 460, according to most reviews, actually is considerably cooler, quieter and more energy efficient compared to other Fermis. Overclock it and you should have something that'll hopefully perform at the same level as a 5870.

Another option is to look at getting a 470. My friend has two in SLI and has managed to overclock them to 750MHz core (1500MHz shaders) whilst keeping them at ~85C at 70% fan. However, he does have a 1000W PSU.

personally wouldnt touch a 470 as it expensive, hot and has a massive power draw. a 1GB 460 is a much better choice or if you want a bit more umpf a 5870 although they are a little more expensive than i think they should be.

for 1920x1080 you will be fine on either a 460 or 5870 to be honest.

the rest of your earlier build is fine, if the 760 is cheaper grab that as it is slightly better.

You can get a 470 for less than £220 now! Plus, they aren't that hot running (for an Nvidia card anyway :worried: ). They do have a large power draw though.

I think a 460 or two is the way to go, to be honest, though.

I wouldn't touch a 470 with a fifteen foot asbestos-insulated bargepole. If you're going to get SLI'd 460s, just remember that you'll need the UD4 (not the UD2) motherboard, because of the extra lanes necessary for SLI to work properly.

Personally - and I'm a member of the green team - I'd still get the 5870. The performance of SLI (and X-Fire) depends far too heavily on driver updates for my liking. If the profiles aren't absolutely perfectly tailored for each game, it can be worse than having just one card.

But I think we've sorted now that you're looking for an i5 750/760-based machine. So we're getting there slowly but surely!

yes as you guys look in my new build. i'm getting i5 760 as 760 is same price as 750.
and i'm not getting gtx 460 as i think 5870 is much better card, and as someone said if i want to buy another card than i will do sli or what ever.
but can i do sli on U2? or do i have to change it to U4??
and if i dont than should i get 6gb ram with the £45 left from 1k????
    thanks for replys guys.

6GB of RAM would be daft as you wouldnt noramlly run 2GBx2 in 1 channel and 1GBx2 in another.

with 1156 platofrm its usually 4GB or 8GB. with 1366 its 6GB or 12GB (triple channel)

As adam_bagpuss says, you should be choosing eithr 4 or 8GB of RAM - 4GB is the sweet spot at the moment.

Get the U4 motherboard as it gives you more bandwidth for Crossfire (as PureSilver says) - it also supports SLI so you have that as an option in the future if necessary.

I think a 1GB GTX 460 instead of the HD5870 would be a better choice as a 5870 would be a bit overkill imo (and it saves a bit of money :D).

I'd swap the PSU for this 520W one for the same reasons as changing the graphics card.

And spend that extra cash on a better monitor, either LED or IPS: :thumb:

    LED
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-L...-Full-HD-1920x1080-DVI-VGA-5ms-500K1-250cd-m2

    IPS
Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA Silver or Black

    Dell Ultrasharp U2311H

Or even a 3D ready monitor:
    Viewsonic 22" VX2268WM
    or
    Acer 23.6" GD245HQ

Nickolay just post in this thread a few more times, when you've got 20 posts you'll get free delivery from Scan.

I've no opinion on the monitor other than that the 2209WA is supposed to be wonderful. The Corsair HX520W I'd be careful with - IIRC it's a very, very old design (hence the reason it's not '80+ rated' or anything like that). Not that that's disastrous, but it is an old design, not a new one.

The big debate looks to be between the 5870 and GTX460, then. Can someone produce a good comparison? And does the UD4 support SLI and X-fire? [EDIT]Just checked and it does.[/EDIT]
