Hi, I am about the fit my first CPU and would like some advice. I have put the CPU in the socket on the motherboard but have not fixed it in position by lowering the leaver. I am concerned about applying too much pressure and damaging the CPU & or motherboard. Pictures below show how it looks at the moment. Does this look correct? How much pressure should be applied to lower the fixing leaver? It seems like I needs to apply a fair amount of pressure to lower the leaver arm so it can lock. Will the pins bend under the pressure? In the photos the leaver is in a position that if I move it down it any further it will start applying pressure. I have checked that the CPU is in the right way round, The notches match up to the lugs on the socket.
If the CPU is in the correct way round then push the arm down, u might have to apply a fair amount of pressure but it shouldnt brake, wait until u have 2 install the fan that will require more pressure
Thanks for the replies. I have lowered the leaver into position. Should the heatsink be fitted before fitting the motherboard to the case?
Its up to you, I recommend fitting heatsink first its sometimes a little difficult to install once already inside the case. If you do install it first make sure the motherboard is on a hard level surface you will have 2 apply pressure. And make sure you have applied the thermal compound to the CPU first (if its the stock cooler then it might already have compound on I can’t remember)
tbh its down to personal preference; i like to fit the motherboard to the case before fitting the heatsink (especially if its a big heatsink) simply because some of these heatsinks are pretty damn heavy when combined with the motherboard which makes it more difficualt to manoever (wheres that damn spell check). other people may say fit the heat sink before fitting the motherboard to the case simply because uv got more room to be messing around with the heatsink in, theres no doubt fitting the heatsink while the motherboard is in the case can be quite 'fidilly' at times. in short its up to u, theres no 'right' way
