It's finished. After 15 hours of stressful, time consuming work I finally have it completed and operational. Keep in mind I haven't had time to polish all the edges, but that's because my hands are really bruised and stiff from working with all those tiny screws. Watch as it folds away into a stream-lined shape that echoes the side intakes. And then it locks closed with a roller-catch in the top of the screen. The "spear" part of the catch is attached to the push-slide-ramp thingy-ma-bob (I'm tired). It prevents the lid from flapping-open when I move the whole machine and it prevents it from slamming closed. Since the slide moves rearward, you have an unobstructed view of DVD-ROM window when the lid is opened. The standard viewing angle is low on purpose. This allows me (and a few other lucky people) to sit on the floor and play games. And there's the whole point of adding the screen. Gaming, DVD/DivX playback, and later as an mp3 visualization screen. Phew, I'm beat.
wow, that is ridiculously sweet. Mechanically function mods are the ones that I always have the most respect for (being an engineering student). Cutting holes and wrapping cables is cool and all...but when you make something move! It shows the ability to make something truly functional. Again, rock.
I love the keyboard and the lcd. I wish that I had seen this keyboard before I finished my case. I could have used something like that. You should make a mini keyboard version. Keep up the good work.
I may be building a duplicate Flamecube for a adoring fan that I met at a convention this weekend. End-user cost: $1500 When that gets off the ground I'll post pictures of it as well. I do not know what changes he wants from my original configuration, but I'll keep everyone up to date on it. I'm up to my next in other responsiblities and other projects so I'll have to wait until next week to get the finishing touches and polish work done on this case.
Are you powering all this off a 120W PSU? Or did you find another one that's smaller? I really wish PSU makers made tiny PSUs that had giant heatsinks and even used the casing of the PSU itself as a heatsink so they could dissipate heat better.
Yep. And I'm working on new fan arrangements at the moment. The PSU needs more cooling than my processor does. At the moment it's using the whole case as a heatsink. Since the PSU is mounted in the front of the case, my machine doubles as a hand warmer But the processor still stays below body temp.
