Half of the sellers jacked their prices - absolute joke!

Yeah that's just pathetic. I wondered how ebay actually pulled this off - are they requiring sellers to give away 20% of the sale price, or are ebay footing the discount themselves?

I would imagine they (and paypal) are just forfeiting their margin?

You can see how it was done in the paypal account detail. The sellers jacking the prices makes sense because they get paid the full amount: you see the non-discount total debit your paypal but in the detail you see a 20% bonus credit from paypal and only the balance coming from your own payment sources.

Sellers jacking prices makes "business" sense but also completely nullifies the 20% discount for the customer. I wonder if anybody was stupid enough to pay an extra 25% for something... I really hope not.

Oh totally agree about any sellers that did that, I should have qualified; I do not think I got scammed, just bought a t-shirt and I was not really shopping for anything in particular so I cannot directly report seeing this happen, but checking the detail in hindsight you can practically see the less scrupulous sellers messing their pants while frantically hammering their amend buy it now price buttons in glee, for sure.
