It is probably just in you package managing system, altough it might be masked...

On Gentoo, just add "net-www/netscape-flash" to your /etc/portage/package.keywords

    Or "install" gnash

Heh, first time I hit a page with a flash applet on it .. Surprisingly Firefox just installed it for me. No fuss, no hassle, no problem :thumb:

I thought the Linux Flash 7 was tres buggy and everybody was saying "Hurry up with 9"?

I've been trying to install Flash 9 in Slax. Fuss, hassle and problems. :wallbash:

Jesus. I'm not stupid enough to post about Windows in a thread concerning the Flash Player for Linux, on a Linux & Open Source board! :duh:

I'm running Ubuntu 6.10, mate. As I said, surprisingly (to me) it just worked.

9 is also buggy, so I want to try 7.
    9 crashes alot.
I just wish someone would make an actual working flash player for linux.

how do you like ubuntu? I'm thinking of getting it, DSL is getting on my nerves. I spent the last 2 days just going to linux distro sites, trying to find one for me.

My Firefox (with Flash 7) crashes if I visit the Adobe test page though it's fine with the adverts here. Maybe it's the Shockwave test on the same page doing it.

Ubuntu is considered entry level Linux.

Some great distro's are Ubuntu, Fedora, SuSe, Debian and Gentoo (In order of difficulty IMHO)

It just works. I can rely on it, whilst being a partial noob.

What doesn't 'just work' is dmraid (anyone flames me for using fakeraid and I'll go nuts -- I wouldn't have done it unless I had to) ... but I'm pretty convinced it was a fair bit easier (read: not as insanely difficult) with the latest version of Ubuntu.

Feisty's meant to have full support for it, but the latest version's installer was a bit mental (it's not stable yet).

I cant get ubuntu 6.10 to work on anything.
the only distro i have sufferd flash issues with is mandriva. it would report that it was installed but then turn around an say please install it.
    Isn't flash in unbuntu's restricted repositry's?

I installed Kubuntu, Nice, but KDE is bloated as fudge, at times it feels slower then XP. Its definably different, coming from DSL (which never maxed my CPU, and only used 20MB of ram on average, FLUX box was boring though, very UNIX like).

Have you tried, Xfce or Xubuntu? I always found it to be a nice alternative to going eating-disorder on your window manager (fluxbox).

    A good trade-off, definitely. :)

Not wanting to go into a "mine is better then yours" war, but if you find Fluxbox boring, then you didn't make the effort to look at its features... I use it for a long time, and I still weekly discover a new feature...
