I flashed my IPOD last night only to find out I lost my charger (i use my computer to charge) and it requires the charger to finish the flash. Is there a way to reset the IPOD?
Couple of solutions: Use a powered USB hub thats not connected to the computer or if you are using a pc, check to see if you have any USB cables plugged into the headers on the mother board (http://pinouts.ru/data/usb_internal_pinout.shtml). If you have, all you have to do is disconnect one and reconnect it only using the 5V and ground, this'll provide you with a usb power socket with no data capabilities, giving the power necessary for you complete the flash process.
Actually using an onboard header with the data wires may not work; I seem to remember reading that without telling the computer how much power is needed from the port, the device can only get something like 0.03a. One of those 9v-based charges could work. Or see if you know someone with a cigarette-lighter charger you could borrow (or a normal wall one...)
I did exactly the same thing last night. Only I had to use my ipod to back-up someones emac and upgrade it to tiger. Upon re-initialising the ipod, I had to plug it into the mains... and yeah, as I bought my ibook I didn't really think about bringing the charger.
