    As per title.

I got myself a ASUS V9950 FX5900 and I wan't to change the bios to a FX5950 one, the question is, where can I get a FX5950ULTRA BIOS that will work with my card(so that the Video-out port will work),and will there be a noticable increase in heat.

I have a ZALMAN ZM80C-HP and a ZM-OP1 on the shelf, will this be enough??

    Cheers,
    Mike

    P.S.
I know how to swap the BIOS, I just need the BIOS itself....

go to gainward's ftp site (ftp.gainward.co.uk or something similar to that) and you can get a bios for just about every nvidia card out there
i found the ultra 1800XP bios to be the best flashing a gainward golden sample 1200XP

the built in temp probe probably wont give you an increase of heat but i think that is because it compensates with the new bios, so there is a slight increase (voltage increase by about .2v)

    hmmm....site does'nt work...........

Anyways, will the Gainward BIOS work in my ASUS card, so that the TV-out will remain functional?

    Cheers,
    Mike

    hmm
tried a few of the gainward ftp sites and they all want a user and pass
wasnt like that a few months back

since the gainward card has both tv-out and video-in it should be fine with your card.

mine was fine with video out and in after the flash

i think most people that were having problem regarding the functionality of the card after the flash were flashing VIVO cards with a bios with only tv-out

if it doesnt work then you can just flash back

try to look for the leadtek bios as well, that is another one i had good results with

My leadtek flashed fine, i dont know wether the TV out still work tho, i heard it didnt, but i got my card running stable at 500/1ghz up from 425/700 :D

Is it wise to flash a card with another manufactueres bios?

there wont be any poblem flashing with a bios from another manufacturer

i have tried creative, leadtek, bfg, gainward and asus bioses for a gainward card

the bigger manufacturers would be the best bioses to use as they are most likely to be updated more frequently though, ie if you grab the most recent gainward 5950 bios it is probably more up to date than the most recent pixelview 5950 bios

the difference between then performance wise was minimal, so i used the gainward one in the end as it had the VIVO on it

    Thanks all

My ASUS has just the TV-OUT :sigh:
(but who cares anyways? )

I got my hands on a LeadTek, but I would prefer a ASUS BIOS, if anyone has one that is.

    Cheers,
    Mike

relaxes the ram timings slightly to allow a bit more speed on the memory
but the main thing is that it ups the voltage on the gpu (from 1.35 to 1.5 i think)

Sure there will be a boost in performance, the 5950ULTRA has higher clocking afterall....

    Me again.

I got all my needed componets, I should flash it within the week, but I need to know if the stock cooler will be enough, or if not, is the Zalman ZM80C-HP with fan enough.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    P.S.
3DMark tests will ofcourse be posted :)
