I tried flashing the Tyan BIOS with flashrom, and the BIOS was flashed. However, the system did not boot. I have only connected the F2 jumper which disables the boot block write protection. Luckily, I was able to boot into freedos, and the helpful community at Flashrom helped me with a DOS version of flashrom which was able to flash the old xw9400 BIOS back.
Hallo, i did here an summary with pictures. With this Jumper at F2 the bootblock isnt blocked anymore. To remove this F1 bootmessages for FrontUSB and Audio simply make the same as on the pictures. Well after you change from HP to Tyan Bios you have to clear your cmos as this isnt the same
I did clear the CMOS. However, I did flash it to Tyan without disabling the boot block WP first, so that might have screwed things up. Anyway, I've recovered the MAC addresses of my board, and it seems that adding some fans (3 or 4 pins) does get rid of the startup warnings. So I might be able to get rid of them so I don't have to press 'F1' to boot. Then I won't have to use the Tyan BIOS.
Dos Flashrom Nilga: i have the a similar problem, could you send me the DOS version of flashrom to restore the HP original bios? Fisrt, I make the wire jumper and flash the second last Tyan bios, but the nic and front panel usb don't work, then tryed to flash the las beta bios from Tyan then my mobo stop after cmos check, don start from cd, hdd, only by floppy, Thanks
flashing xw9400 board Hi there, I have an xw9400 board and I just did the flash with tyan bios. Everything worked correctly except for the onboard nics. I found the mac addresses from the sticker of the board (001cc4adcb80 and 81), I've searched the bios file for the default macs (044b80808003, 04, 05 ,06 tyan bios has 4 addresses), changed with my 2 macs and reflashed but same nic problem again. I even flashed the latest 4.01d bios, but no good. Is there something else that needs to be done in the bios file or just not possible to use the nics with the tyan bios? The file offset in tyan bios is 0x000ffe30h. Then I had the hp bios I had the error "Detected invalid mac address" but the nics where working correctly. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi there, with my xw9300, running the tyan bios, i've not worried about the mac addresses being stuffed up. I've been using the PC for quite some time now and havn't had any problems with it. If the nics are working fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. i've found the benefits of running the tyan far outway the negative of having a stuffed up mac address.
AFAIK, the MAC addresses should be programmed on an EEPROM that is part of the NIC. The data you are looking at in the BIO may be something like SMBIOS or NVRAM. There are tools to manipulate parts of a BIOS image that are released by the BIOS vendor. But a company like Tyan could always 'break' that functionality. Still, you could try googling BNOBTC and try something from there in the BIOS image to see if you can resolve the problem.
Flashing tyanbios problems. Hello again. Not my nics don't work at all (the leds are off even when cable is connected to switch) or else i wouldn't bother withthe macs. Maybe i srewed something on the board itself. Anyway i tryed phoenix bios editor but can't find what i am looking for. Thanks for the replys, i guess i have to live with it for now.
tyan s2915-e bios flashed to hp xw9400 Did you ever get it working?how exactly do you use this flashrom that everyone speaks of?cant you just flash the bios the regular way?i have the same board and im trying to get quads or six cores in it,thanks in advance for any help.
I continue this thread hoping someone is still here....I have an hp xw9300 mobo that I bought some years ago as a replacement of my Tyan K8WE S2895. When I bought it the seller sold me as a Tyan K8WE and I kept it for emercency reason without watching it accurately. When some weeks ago I had to replace my broken mobo I discovered it was not exactly the same mobo...I wouldn't have any problem with this mobo except finding right pins to connect power, power led and reset switch as these are different from the Tyan one, but the Hp model limits the amount of ram that can be installed. With the Tyan one I installed 24 Gb of ram using 4 x 4gb modules and 4 x 2gb. If I install all these modules on the HP XW9300 mobo, when Windows start loading after the post, I get the blue screen that something is wrong. I would have liked to test the modules (even if with the Tyan I didn't experienced any problem about memories; I am sure the memories should be healthy also because doing render works and using programs that use lot o ram more than time the system showed that almost all the ram was in use) but I didn't succeed even starting dos and memtest with all modules installed. The strange thing is that the HP bios at the start tell me correctly it has updated the memories at 24 GB. So, as I read that officially the HP mobo supports max 16 GB of ram I kept away 2 x 4gb modules and the workstation started but windows (it is an original version) telling me in its properties that 16 GB of ram are installed but just 4 are usable. I tried to change some settings in the bios, in particular the memory remapping, but nothing to do...everytime the bios reserve for the hardware all the memory but 4gb...So I wish to try to flash the bios. I tried with flash tool of Phoenix bios but I get the sam message as some other user about PCB DMI block...I tried to short as suggested by drdeterant to shorten the jumper next to the bios (there are 2 jumpers...one closer and another a little more far...I tried alternatively each one) but didn't succeeed with any tool...neither with the flashrom program that I started from a virtual linux machine...I read someone other connected an external programmer but I am not expertise in this kind of things...So I ask to people who wrote here (if someone will read) that succeed in flashing this mobo bios how exactly they did it. Last I also found this interesting thing: http://cafe.daum.net/tualatin/J11z/234 but really I don't understand a lot...in the sense I don't know which type of rom is the HPXW9300 one? A legacy one or a FWH/LPC? And how to pin cut and solder in so very little piece as this bios??
