    Very nice! :) Excellent colors.

I do think the DOF is way to tight on the first one, though.

They all look professional to me except the last one, which really should have captured a closer shot of the insect in the flower for my tastes. I also like the first one and imo you have captured it perfectly. Must have been a difficult shot with such a shallow depth of field.

As with your other portraits I'm amazed at how good you are at capturing/seeing good lighting and your dof is spot on.
The third and second to last are the best imo. What aperture were these shot at?

And do you have any tricks to getting such good lighting that you could share? Or is it all about seeing it?

Thanks for the feedback. Just to give you an idea of what was done as far as PP...for all images excluding the last, they have had minimal PP which consists of conversion levels, WB, despeckle, and crop. View them in a larger size if they look to have any artifacts (due to compression) They shouldn't appear at actual size.

Smilodon, The First image was shot purposely wideopen to give a desired soft focus effect.

Socks, The last image is pretty much unprocessed, some level and white balance tweaking and conversion in DPP is all. It is also uncropped, and to give you an example of perspective the flower is about 1" in diameter.

OleJ, The first, second and third were all taken during the 'Golden Hour' (sunset). The last two more so mid-afternoon. All my lighting is 100% natural with no tricks or PP, so yea, in my case its all about seeing it. I'll get back to you on aperture later since I am not at my PC ATM.

    I agree completely. Fantastic shots.
I'm not sure; I quite like the extra detail. I don't think it's to the point of busy or distracting, it's just a bit more colorful and a bit more to look at. I like it plenty.

OleJ, here are those ap's you asked for:

    1-2.8
    2-2.8
    3-2.8
    4-4
    5-4

    6-4
    7-5.6
    8-4
    9-4

BTW, I shot most of the same flowers from f/2.8-f/8 and some @ f/16, just happens I like the bokeh of the wider apertures ;) Thanks for lookin'

I think this is the trick I was looking for :) I find it really hard to tell what aperture to shoot at in the heat of the moment. I guess it's an obvious solution... I just didn't realise it :D

Surprised by the low ap you shot these at. Thanks for the info.
