Bit of an odd one this but, it came up in conversation elswhere so i thought i'd seek out the thoughts on this @Gareth Halfacree's in particular. What fonts do y'all use for IDEs/Console windows/Notepad/VIm whatever. And, does it make a difference to you.
I like Ubuntu's monospace font. Any monospace font is fine really, it's syntax coloring what makes the real difference for me. I like delek in vim on a dark background.
Ooh, my favourite topic: fonts! I have a whole bunch I use, depending on device and use-case... Text editor: Source Code Pro. Lovely. Desktop Terminal: IBM MDA from the Ultimate Oldschool PC Font Pack. Can't beat the classics. Laptop Terminal: ATI Small W 6x8 from the same pack, just for the contrast against the relatively high-resolution screen. Smartphone Terminal: Courier Prime. In all cases, the colour scheme is the same: Solarized Dark. Can't beat it. I also have a lot of love for IBM Plex, and tend to alternate between that and Source Code Pro in the text editor. I also run through various fonts from the UOPCFP when I tire of IBM MDA, including the lovely Wyse stuff (typically in double-height format.)
Thought so. I've seen Fira Mono, IBM's Plex, Inconsolata, Dank mono and Source Code Pro come up as suggestions elsewhere... plus a few mad bastards using comic sans. I don;t get on with Dark Solarized particualrly, though i do favour dark themse in general. The reason behind my asking is sometimes have trouble reading lengthy code documents... trying to work out whether the issue is the font, the colours or me.
I started using IBM Plex before I switched to macOS (and since switching to macOS I haven't yet updated my fonts! ). Right now I'm just using whatever the Visual Studio Code and PyCharm defaults are (and cursing Apple's/macOS' stupid, arrogant, and **se-backwards approach to what should be the simple matter of home/end keys and their associated modifiers) What fresh hell is this? I hope they're doing it as a joke. If it isn't a fixed-width font then what the hell are they doing?
