So this Friday when most of the PC forum will be picking up BF 2142 from gaming stores nationwide, you won't see me there. Being a First Sergeant on BF2 I always thought that I would get the next version however many times Dice and EA messed up on the patches. But I got sick of the bugs and now can't be bothered to part with cash for a game that won't be fixed until next year. Instead I will be getting Football Manager 2007, now probably like the previous versions it will have a minor patch, but it will also have a massive data update after the January transfer window, which if EA were the publishers would be in the form of a booster pack. Sega now own the makers of Football Manager but at least they continue to provide a quality game, not out to make further money from unnecessary booster packs. (End Rant ) ----------------------------------------- So who will be picking the game this year then? Hopefully I'm going to take charge of the mighty Hull. Whatever I do I can't do worse than real-life, bottom of the table anyway.
I've had it on pre-order for a while, played the demo and I'm really looking forward to it. I've been a fan of the series for a long time.
Christ is this out on Friday?! I haven't had my fill of Company Of Heroes yet! I. Cannot. Wait. Best franchise/series on any platform. Ever.
Same here, why do all the good games come out together? Nevermind I can answer that question myself, The Christmas Market!
So it came today, Thursday, yet it was supposed to be out on Friday, yet it was moved forward because some suppliers released it early. Altogether confusing. Anyway, I shall report back on how it is anyway when I get some quality time to play it.
You're not the only one avoiding 2142, I've got better things to do with my money, like make a fire with it to burn my testicles. Havn't played a football manager game since the one on my C64 Watched a mate playing one of the newer ones and smugly pointed out that on the C64 you got to see that match, not read the commentary
Has anyone got the LAN function working yet? I am trying to get a 10 man LAN game of FM2007 going in my halls, but I can't understand how to setup a server? Can anyone offer a hand?
Er... Modern? Can't be to be honest... There have been 2D match engines on the Football Manager Series since Championship Manager 4 (2002-2003). Yet I remember playing a really old EA version on the PC (2000ish) with a 3D engine. Anyway about the game, so far so good. But, not much has changed in this version, just improvements. I haven't had much chance to look at the feeder club system, but at the moment the game seriously looks over-priced, you are paying for the update more than ever. It's a good game nonetheless but should be priced at £20. EDIT: Tibby- Have you enabled the game to run as a server in the preferences, under network? I always used to forget to do this in last year's version. Tell me if you get it working, presuming you are using the same disc, I haven't tried this yet.
We are using same disc with no-cd crack (Mods edit at will, not sure on legallity). I have ticked run as server, but do I just then start a normal game? Also how do I see who is in the server?
Up at 4am? You are dedicated! Well on last year's game you tick the 'Run As Server', start up a new game, wait after you have added the manager and people should be able to join either via the browser or by IP Address. To see how many people are in your game, just go to Options>Game Status. The managers will appear there.
Yeah it's defo an improvement, but not a major leap forward. Looks a hell of a lot nicer and I like the new additions to the team talk and media interactions. Also the tips (even for a major CM/FM veteran like me) can be pretty useful. I like some of the little things like being able to import a photo of yourself into your manager profile. The game as a whole looks far slicker and professional than ever before - although it's still just a very static, glorified database (part of the charm?) they do seem to be gradually increasing the quality of presentation and quantity of graphical touches. On the match engine comment, many hardcore players don't use this anyway. Certainly like me, many people prefer the text commentary as it utilises your imagination rather than a repetitive graphical engine - this is the basis for all the great CM stories and diaries people publish. Sometimes I switch to the graphical version to see conceeded goals, but not often. Cost-wise, I wish they would go back to the good old days when it was at the most £20 (although only £24 from Tesco anyway).
Found about this after I tried to look through the German national side and discovered they were completely weird and fake: Go into the fake.lnc file in the ...Data/db/700/Inc/all folder and open it in Notepad or whatever you use. Change the 1 next to the ID numbers for Holland and Germany into 0 (sorts them out to fully functional versions) and delete the line with Jens Munsterman in (This make Oliver Kahn instaed of Jens Munstermann). You should end up with something like this: # "FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM" "Nation Unique ID" "1/0 - On/Off" # "CHANGE_PLAYER_NAME" "Person Unique ID" "First Name" "Common Name" "Second Name" #Germany "FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM" 771 0 #Holland "FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM" 784 0 #player name changes Obviously some sort of rights issue, although why it's so easily fixable is strange. I found that you need to start a new game file to get this to work as your save must retain player data.
u can just re-name or delete the fake.inc file as you could with every other version, and you'll get the correct teams, this is because EA have exclusive rights to Germany and Holland apprently.
Anyone else notice the rather annoying amount of very early goals scored in the game? Had atleast three scored against me in the first 30 seconds of matches already. Scored one myself after just 14 seconds. On the upside they seem to have solved the bug with teams mounting heroic comebacks from large goal differences.
I've been playing this for a few weeks now and will be writing up a review soon. So watch out for that!
Tibs, you have to run your game as a server, then for other people to join, they go New Game > Join Server. That should work. Talk to me on MSN if you have some trouble. I've been playing FM07 religiously since it came out. I've already completed 3 seasons and am going strong. It has lots of issues and the database is substantially smaller than previous versions, but SI insist that this will change in the upcoming patch
More important than anything else on the PC? "Football Manager 2007 has stormed into first place in the official UK gaming charts on the week of its release. Sega's latest edition in the management series relegated Fifa 07 to number two, with Sims 2: Pets at three. Sales of 91,111 units of the management title means it is the UK's third fastest selling PC game ever, leaving the 2006 edition as the second fastest. Championship Manager 4, remains the quickest seller, shifting 103,000 copies in its first weekend" - www.bbc.co.uk
I don't know if anybody can help, but I cannot seem to save my game- every time I save it stalls the computer and I cannot save or quit and have to wait till my laptop looses battery before I can shut it off! Anyone know how I can get around this, as nothing else stalls my laptop? Cheers
