Hey rio got a 8 month ban for his drug test thats a damn sight more than 10- games. Personally it doesnt matter if a ref is only slightly pushed its still "assault" and that should be brought down on harshly!
I don't like football, but still: referees are doing a job, and they should not have to feel that they should colour any decision they make with the knowledge that there may be a verbal or physical backlash from the players involved, otherwise their decision is void. if a less harsh punishment were given for this players may feel that they can "get away" with arguing with referees' decisions, which is unacceptable - they get enough schtick from the fans! (just think back to the fiasco with Urs Meier!) AH
The player was David Prutton for Southampton in last weeks match against arsenal. In my opinion he is luck that it was only a 10 match ban as if he had done it a few weeks earlier his ban would of been a lot longer as Paolo di Canio got a 11 match ban for pushing a ref once but David ended up pushing the ref 3 or more times. As he only got 10 matches so that the punishment doesn’t carry on into next season as the FA got slated for having Rio's ban going in to the next season. Also isn't it odd how it seems only in football the refs get so abused by the players over decisions where as in rugby matches the players seem to except that refs decisions whether they think it is right or wrong.
