Recently I've stumbled upon a local online metals supplier and had a great idea after reading this bit-tech case review. It was a review of a case for people who frequently change their components (basically a metal frame with some extras to hold stuff) and it sold for $130! Well, I think I can make that kind of case but better and sell it for just $75. So, would anyone here actually want to buy a case like this? I'd like to know because if anyone wants one I can custom design it in the build period. Bit-tech staff maybe? You guys always review stuff, maybe use it
Well, I've seen those same cases on sale for about $80 on some sites, so perhaps its really not that big of a savings? Thing is they are nice when they're custom made because you can tailor them to the specific purpose they're meant for. For example, if someone on BT staff only tests hard drives, it could just be a normal case with a modified easy-swap hard drive test rack, etc. So maybe if you custom designed your models to what they want, it would set you apart from HSPC. Just a thought. I'd buy one if I wasn't already making one.
That's why I'm asking now, so if anyone wants it they can have a great input on the design, but mostly I want to work my metal working skills and actually turn a profit, or at least break even. After looking over stuff the price could very well only be $50. Plus I plan on some new things that your factory built case wont get you
I would definatly buy one. Problem is price of course. Using what I have here I could easly just make my own of course, but that is like work
Well sparky you can certainly save yourself some effort then as I keep finding ways to reduce price (different materials and suppliers and ways to build it) and new estimates are hitting $50 and below for cost of making it. And Duste, if the buyer so chooses... I was thinking more like white LEDs controlled by a switch that could illuminate one's components in the event that they are replacing things in the dark, or the case/components cast shadows making that ever illusive SATA port invisible, this case will get rid of that problem
