Lun ekranoplan looks like something from eve online yes, i know it's technically not a plane, but technically it's not a boat either. technically, it's not anything
I saw the P51 Mustang and I was happy. Also might I mention the 109's successor?: And of course the Italian WWII planes the R.2005 and the C. 205 and the G.55
I have always loved the ekranoplans, because they are simply one of the most awesome applications of engineering that I can think of. Plus, the Lun looks bad-ass
Read today that the US Air Force is now planning to scrap the A-10 fleet by 2023 http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130915/DEFREG02/309150004/USAF-Weighs-Scrapping-KC-10-10-Fleets
I'll leave these here:- Spirit of Great Britain by Ian A Worrall, on Flickr BAC Strikemaster by Ian A Worrall, on Flickr Sea Fury by Ian A Worrall, on Flickr
They should probably wait until they figure out why the F-22 keeps asphyxiating it's pilots and see if maybe the F-23 is actually going to work. Nah, that's crazy talk
That raptor really comes with a list of issues longer than many books, it seems. My brother still maintains that most of the kind of issues mentioned are relatively normal in new military aircraft (for the record, he is an Avionics mechanic on the Eurofighters in Germany)...
For some reason a lot of people are saying this, and maybe they're right, but I can't remember the Jaguar, Mirage, Tornado, or F-15 trying so hard to kill their pilots. The F-16 did have its share of trouble, but given the fleet size and speed with which they had to produce them, they were sorted in short order and now with a over 4500 built, it is also practically bulletproof. The F-22 and F-35 have become jokes in milavia circles, and rightly so. The only programme that comes close to being so embarrassing is India's Tejas LCA (aka "Late Combat Aircraft"). This poor performance has crept into the civil airliner world too. Say what you will about all aircraft having issues during their entry-into-service (EIS) phase, the B787 strikes me as an aircraft that was too hastily certified. It is an ambitious project and I hope it succeeds in the long term, but that is no excuse for it's abysmal reliability at present.
I honestly don't know enough about this kind of thing to comment or speculate by myself. Maybe it's just over-marketed. For now, i'll take my brother's word for it (closest thing to "authority" on the subject I have access to), and read the columns about ANOTHER failure of one of the pair (F35/F22) failing.
The A-10 was so awesome, it had it's own games. Rep if you've played them A-10 Tank Killer Silent Thunder: A-10 Tank Killer II
I did... for a bit.. not much, sadly (my PC back then was suck). I did play the A-10 in LOMAC, though.
No thread complete without these three.... ...even if the Spitfire is a silly Griffon powered imposter ...and of course... you can never have enough of this ...or this bad boy. images by me.
Definitely going to see the Vulcan next year, thought I'd missed my chance after reading they were stopping after 2013, but now they're trying to extend it to 2015. Seen the stationary one at Newark, but I need to hear it fly over,
What plane is that? It's very pretty. Planes are something I love but know next to nothing about. I do have a bit of a thing for for SR71 though but then again who doesn't?
That's an Avro Vulcan and yes, it's incredibly pretty. They even made a turboprop airliner/transporter that's so elegant she's still flying today - 50 years after first taking to the sky.
