It works rather well here with our average number of sunny days of crap tons http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=-23.713068,133.883858&spn=0.155597,0.252686&z=12&om=1 in the uk you could just mount them on poles and add some auto tracking stuff to it to improve it but then again i have nfi how clear the sky is up there
Germany does well for solar power, and their weather isn't that different to ours. Also note that solar power is free (after set-up) and even a little is more than zero.
and if anyone doubts the capability of the sun to power stuff may i recommend watching the solar car challange that happens in .au every 2 years (or used to before the speed limit changed in the NT(new rules this year)) my Accent got out accelerated by a solar car and i was already moving
I just got this newsletter from maplin - solar is still quite expensive. and what's the latest on planning permission requirements?
Just imagine how much power that can be produced if everyone covered their roofs with solar panels. besides, solar panels look nice
