Ok....so my cousin forgot her new password on her vista home premium.... what a dick. anyways, i gotta try and sort out her pc. we tried using a password reset disk but that didn't work. any suggestions or is it a case of rebooting the whole thing?
Those are moments where 2 partitions is the best solution. I was told countless time that it was useless... well here is another instance of many that it is not. If you had Windows in a partition (such a C:\ for example) and all your files and programs on D:\, then a simple 20 min re-install of Vista could have been performed without loosing any data (just don't' forget to set the Document, Music. Video etc... folder to folder into the D drive). I am afraid all I know, would be a re-install. If you have a second computer, attach the HDD on there and backup all his files, put back the HDD to his computer and re-install.
I am sure there is a way to reset the password. Give me a few minutes to find it though. I think you have to boot of a Linux live CD but we'll see... edit: here we go http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ Have fun with that!
Huh... well here goes all the security with the password. Oh wait you need to floppy... so you can put a password on the BIOS.
Most BIOSes don't need a floppy to put a password in, there should just be an option somewhere. And we all knew that a Windows password provides next to now security for your data - you can always just boot off a Linux live CD
data protection?! I know that... you can remove the HDD and plug-in onto a another computer as well. But it is about preventing access to your computer. I guess the abov emention solution does not work if you have Vista Ultimate with BitLocker thingy.
ok, thanks for the help guys, another one of my cousins managed to solve the problem. i think he used that tool you suggested. thanks for the tip ups!
I would love to know what method he did use. This morning a friend came to me saying he had locked himself out of his computer. Rather amusing really
