    Hi,

just a quick message to ask a question:

how do I format my hard drive under WinXP? I want to start over again with my copy of Windows 98

Once it's formatted do I just put the 98CD in the drive and boot from the CD?

Have you got a boot disk?

If your version of 98 enables you to boot from CD then you should have no problems.

There's a strange problem. Whenever I type FORMAT C: at the command prompt , it just says "BAD COMMAND OR FILE NAME", and nothing happens. I tried at the A:\> and C:\> prompts. I've tried all sorts of combos but NOTHING.

What disk are you trying to boot off? If you've created a basic bootable floppy, you will need to copy format onto it first.

I might post the contents of my bootdisk when I get home, it has some pretty useful old DOS utilities ... including FORMAT and FDISK ... to save you the trouble of trying to find them. :)
